Re: The People’s Mosquito

My die is cast - I'm with TPM. Got the t-shirt and in the club (that sounds wrong!) Which is not to say I wouldn't be glad to see both up (together!) but only two years for MPT? Are they buying into a half-done project with the remaining needs accounted for? ... Yes, yes they are. It's been for sal...

The NZ Catalina has the same restriction - they regularly operate from Lake Wanaka and Lake Taupo, but never salt water.

Re: When does a jet become 'Classic'?

... Probably a very small grey area as I can't actually think of any other examples of this, where one country has an example flying privately, whilst others still use them operationally, but just thought it was interesting. In fact, wasn't the US Phantom flying privately at the same time as there ...

The Dragonfly has just returned to the air, the Canberra is an active project, Meteor active (new pilot just signed off), Sabre still grounded due to unsupported ejection seat.

I have Lightroom on work's Surface Pro (it's good when IT trust you not to do anything stupid), going via a dock when at home. Photos are on an external 500MB SSD, so when I am away for a multi-day airshow, I just take the Surface (which has enough drive space to backup) and the drive. https://farm5...

I agree. Excellent photos, and I too miss the balloons at Fairford. But why oh why ruin a lovely Blenheim/Spitfire formation with one of the abominable two seaters? Per a (the?) commentator Peter 'Ando' Anderson, it was intended to be a Mk.I Spit, but the Tr.9 was subbed in for some reason. Excelle...

Yep, they're only low-res, watermarked images I bung on Flickr for hosting. This is why I don't trust cloud technologies! Still a pain in the bum though - takes ages to name and tag them all. Wish they had a feature to let you copy the info from another image already in your library. Naming (and so...

I assume the flat "life-sized figures" will be well packaged, so a bit bulky for a van. Forklift/scissorlift out the cargo door, onto a lorry I would think.

Re: RAF Cosford Air Show 2018 - [Main Topic]

Press release from Cosford confirming the RNZAF 757 flying display, and indeed, it's bringing exhibits from the Air Force Museum of New Zealand to display at the airshow. Unbelievable effort from New Zealand, fair play. Especially after the outcry of them declining RIAT's invitation. I imagine thei...

Re: Flickr sold to Smugmug

They paid money for something so they'll be looking to monetize that new asset in the near term. The two business models are advertising or subscription. Take your pick. A vast database of images is quite a valuable resource that people are willingly giving away (much like facebook info), especiall...

Re: Flickr sold to Smugmug

Well they've given a month's notice of new conditions (those include rather more restrictions on the nature of photos than Flickr, I understand), which seems fair enough. If that change spurs someone to delete their pro account, then they could ask nicely for a refund (does Deviant Art cost much?), ...

Nice work, especially the Catalina on the water.
I'm glad I saw the C-27J display at Omaka last year, as I was headed to the brewery next door when you got its arrival on the Thursday (and its only display slot on Saturday was cancelled by the Yak-3 prang).

Re: Temora Flying Day -Easter 2018 Part1

If you are at Omaka early, and we are still on Summer Time, then the pre-show rides are taking off from dawn. It's neat when the sun rising over the hills to the left of the crowd line is reflected off the aircraft using the main runway (angled away from the crowdline). m The sun then passes behind ...

I've been struggling with looking into the sun literally all day at Wanaka. Illawara also has this problem. If you want an Australasian show with good light, choose Omaka!

Transport Command Scheme would be OK, but we've seen it before. Go the whole hog and go for 12 Group's Comms Flight, you get Transport Command Scheme plus dayglo nose and tail. RAF Waddington Station Flight was quite nice with either yellow or red stripes or how about Cambridge UAS, very elegant. A...

Topdresser demos are fairly common at NZ airshows. Omaka (3 days, mainly warbirds) even demo'ed a drone loader for single-crewed (i.e. pilot only) operations.

I haven't yet investigated the backup situation with the new Lightroom Cloud product. Do they expect subscribers to plan for them to never screw up the Catalogue? Backing up the originals and the final output should be simple enough.

Re: The People’s Mosquito

Wasn't there a plan for one to end up at Biggin Hill? As far as I'm aware, despite much excitement and fanfare following the initial statement, nothing more seems to have come of it and it has faded from view - I seem to recall a statement saying this was no-longer being pursued, however I may have...
