Berlin Express incident at Duxford Legends

Berlin Express took-off around midway through this afternoon's display - did one fast & low run and promptly landed without its canopy. It seems its Malcolm hood came off just as it crossed the M11 end threshold. The fire team did a methodical FOD plod picking up the pieces of the shattered cano...

Re: Bristol Freighter to the UK?

OK, I guess I was a bit personal against FarnboroJohn, I lowered myself to a level that I've been despondent about other people on this forum adopting, so aplolgies FJ, and thanks for your apology! I guess I was (over) reacting to the hard work of the Bristol Aero Collection being disparaged just at...

Re: Bristol Freighter to the UK?

Of the 2 Farnborough brothers, I definitely like Rob the most, he seems a nice, open minded and sensible guy, whereas John not only can't spell "Farnboro!", but insists his lack of knowledge (or research) is the truth. In addition to G-CVIX's good points, it's worth noting that Bristol has...

Re: John Bradshaw's Sea Fury sold

Thanks Brian, lovely shots of a beautiful aircraft. I found your update as soon as I'd posted. Typical : )

Flying Legends were pretty on the ball getting it into their gallery of participating aircraft, just like they did with the Seafire : )

Looking forward to Saturday

Re: Florennes BAFD 2016

Didn't realise that they made a floatplane version of the F-84 : )

Remember (vaguely) seeing one on these rupture a droptank on a low (very) pass at Filton in the 60's, flew off streaming fuel.

Now what was that about minimum display heights?

Flying Legends & the Naughty Field(s)

There's been plenty of discussion about the new CAA rules for air displays on this and many other forums. A recent discussion with one of the organisers involved at Flying Legends presented me with a perspective I hadn't considered before. I've just scanned through all 13 pages of the post "201...

They were still parked outside a year ago (18.03.15) according to Google Earth 31°58'26.11"N 36° 0'0.54"E. But they're gone 15.09.15. Presumably taken into the hangers?

Re: Air Cadet Gliding... Future Announced!

It's a tragedy what's happened to the VGS fleet over the past few years. I flew for a short period of time with 618 squqdron at Odiham before I lost my RAF medical. The Vigilants were all impeccably maintained, immaculately turned out and a delight to fly. They were flown within much more stringent ...

Re: History of flying displays

Great thread, anyone got any of the Filton Family's days, 1962, 64, 66 or 68?

The stand out act for me on the Biggin 1963 display would be the Valiant II? As there was only one built, which apparently stopped flying in 1958?

Typo?

Re: Who am I

Hmmm. Looks vaguely familiar. Quite small, probably no bigger than a Tiger Moth, but single seat. Can't see any lower wing pick-up points, parasol wing? Very short robust undercarriage, so probably small prop, therefore low powered. Narrow fuselage suggests inline or flat engine rather than radial. ...

Thanks Cameron, lovely to see a Dove flying, takes me back to hanging onto the fence under the approach at Filton in the 60's with the based Bristol Siddeley fleet, and BAC's, HSA's and RAE Devons frequent visitors. And I'd never before noticed the asymmetric elevators, very prominent in shot 13. I ...

Re: Surprised this wasn't mention about the Swordfish

Hi, I wonder whether any of our better connected contributors (Mr Howard?) know what the plans are for NF389, which is notable by its absence in the funding write up? My understanding is she's still at Brough, pending full restoration but being used as a source of spares? Is there realistically any ...

My nominations would be Ford Trimotor (I think Scenic airways/Grand Canyon still operate one, or did until fairly recently)?
Tiger Moth, still training pilots at Cambridge?
Any other nominations?

Lovely shots, the Bronco looks squeaky clean.

The only difference I've been able to spot between the HC1 and the HC2, is that on the HC2 the exhausts seem to stick out further, especially at the front, whereas on the HC1 they're closer and parallel to the fuselage. I think : )
