Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

It will also show the so called vtts defenders that seem to jump on any comment, actually no sweet F.A. And there credibility on this subject is worth nothing. If you're going to pull people up on their credibility, it's better that you know how to use the correct spelling first, or 'yule' end up l...

It may have reached a point where the cost of the pitch outweighs the sales revenue. The couple of stands I have seen this year certainly looked very quiet sales wise.

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

The VTTS defenders seem to have very little defence other than posting smileys, pointing out spelling mistakes or otherwise belittling anyone who dares to criticize the strategy or use of donated funds. The defence seems to be: "we know what we are doing despite what has happened in the last fe...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

I think everyone accepts that Doncaster is a horrible place to keep 558, but do we know if there was a will from the powers at be at Bruntingthorpe to keep the aircraft there? I am clutching at straws but i'm always trying to find some good reason that Bruntingthorpe was passed by. Yes there most d...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

Nearly three years on from the final flight, anyone care to point out what benefit the public have got for their donations over that time? Other than wages and redundancy pay-outs, what exactly HAS the money been spent on? It sure as hell hasn't been revealed in the "news" (sic) letters. ...

...Would be the same at Brunti with fuel recovered from the jet liners that land there for breaking. Is that right then? The aircraft at 'Brunti' get all their fuel for free? As Gregg says, certainly not. It has been true at times in the past, e.g. when the VC10 fleet were being scrapped, but there...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

The current live Vulcan situation really does highlight the problems in trying to keep one of the last three runners alive, and to be fair, the difficulty in choosing a home for 558. The ideal place is a private, quiet airfield, or a site at least with a fairly disused but decent condition long runw...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

Based on bernarde's comments on use of the engine testing bay, I wonder why VTST doesn't do them more often, I'm sure the volunteers wouldn't ever get sick of firing her up. I can only assume, in descending order of likelihood they don't do more runs because: - The airport limit how often visitors c...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

At the moment the only option you have to hear an Olympus running is Doncaster and 558. 655 wont run this year due to the ongoing troubles at Wellesbourne and the VRT are still some way away from public events at Southend. If you can afford £100 and expenses I would advise visiting 558 for the engin...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

Go on other websites, including the RIAT one, you'll see plenty of equally crap mugs for sale at similar prices. VTST don't have the monopoly on crap mugs or other tat merchandise. Its for a better cause though at least RIAT's tatt is for charity m The VTST mugs presumable pay for Mr Pleming's groc...

The 'buy now' exhortations in full shouty capitals along with the invitation to sign up for the 'non-news' newsletter, certainly makes me wonder how I've managed to get by these past weeks without receiving the weekly merchandising update... Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

Whenever the news comes, I wonder if the assertion made as recently as last Christmas, that the new visitor centre "will be open for business in 2018", will still be the case? Surely something has to happen soon as the Trust can't keep going on forever like this: raising money to pay wages...

Re: First F35s to Marham 5th June

I'm sure the F-35B's range is classified but Google would have me believe its not much more than 1000 nautical miles. Remember the B model has very limited internal space and extra weight to carry around with that huge lift fan. It seems a great pity there couldn't have been a catapult on the new ca...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

So what were VTTS thinking letting a cosmetic surgeon do the pre-flight checks on '558? Or have I got the wrong end of the stick here? Wrong end i would say, the aircraft would be in the hands of the head of maintenance. Not sure if you are being sarcastic or serious, if its the latter, who were th...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

Likewise the hangar practices that saw a silica gel bag left in the intake - how and why, and by whom (the identity of the person responsible on the day has, to my knowledge, yet to make it into the public arena) was such a mistake made? The polar opposite of "reasonable care and skill" i...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

Well I think there was always fading hope about a ferry flight or road transport. But what literally 1000s of posts on here have determined is that the good people of VttST would never allow 558 to go to Bruntingthorpe even if either option was feasible - which we have to realise it isn't. I have no...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

I'm not sure why you call it Bruntingthorpe "garbage". It's a lost cause though, no amount of wishing will get it there and no amount of trying to persuade those who prefer Doncaster how much better the retirement could have been there will make any difference. Just as no amount of persuad...

I'm not sure there is anything else to say Brevit! 558 is at Doncaster, she may or may not get a hangar built to protect her from the elements, she may or may not be able to stay in said hangar for a few years depending on revenue from visitors. She'll continue running her engines ...

Oh and he gave up all revenue from the main hangar for 10 years to have 558 restored - and gave 558 and all the spares to the VTTST. The hangar was leased by the Trust for the purposes of the restoration. The appropriate references, should you wish to confirm this information, would be the VTTST An...

Let hope there is news soon. Think it about it practically, there really needs to be news soon. I can't see how the VTTST could continue in its present form if the hangar build doesn't go ahead, so probably true to say make or break this year. GDPR teaser or not though, seems unlikely they would say...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

It could always be relocated to the glorified car park that is Bruntingthorpe now? If they get any more vehicles clogging up the runway then we can say goodbye to Cold War Jets days! Cars will always come first as they earn money - perhaps VTTS were right after all? Is that really meant as a seriou...
