Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

All the work needed to keep the airframe in good condition is proof that, overall the airframe is a drain on the charity rather than a £750000 asset. At least whilst it was flying , there was the argument that it was totally unique but that argument has gone. It is a taxiable Vulcan, pure and simpl...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

Remember the Blackpool Vulcan sold on eBay. Some pub landlord bought it before realising the cost of dismantling and movement by road made it worthless. . It was also down to the fact it was a rusting hunk of junk that would have fallen apart during dismantling and transport. There is still a Vulca...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

pbeardmore, I seem to remember that we all remarked at the time what a coincidence the Vulcan was valued as £750K which was the exact same amount the HLF has a charge over if for. So they were valuing it as the amount that they owed the HLF, or in other words, the market value is £0 but you have to ...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

The last set off accounts took us up to 31 October 2016 and were filed 04 Sep 2017, previous accounts were also up to 31 Oct so their financial year end must end 31st Oct. So we can expect a new set of accounts in about 4 or 5 months time which will reveal the financial status of the Trust as at aut...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

Who was in charge and overseeing things the day the silica bags weren't seen? Alledged, whoever it was, wasnt on site at the time...But I tend to agree with what others have said: whatever happened, it has no relevance to the current status of 558 and it seems petty to dwell on this one mistake in ...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

Indeed, I'd heard Taff Stone has been back at Doncaster for some time. I thought I'd read that Taff Stone was being paid a 'retainer' to work on XH558 when required, as opposed to being kept on as a full time employee. Is that still the case or have his terms changed? Which would suggest that for '...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

Indeed, I'd heard Taff Stone has been back at Doncaster for some time. He was at Waddington but I guess that was only short term. 558 is in very good hands as long as he is remains associated with her - just hope VTTST keep him at all costs. That said, he helped the VRT with their taxi run at Southe...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

Was Bob Prothero involved in a Black Buck mission? I didnt think he was. Perhaps the above is getting confused with Bob Tuxford who often demonstrates the Victor at Bruntingthorpe. He most certainly was part of Black Buck including the famous first mission where the Victor nearly ran out of fuel it...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

Those overseeing failure often come out with the cliches "lessons will be learnt", "with the luxury of hindsight", "nobody saw this coming" etd but threads like this prove that the concerns were openly discussed at the time and we know that the charity are/were aware o...

Great to read some new stuff about 558 that hasn't already been discussed to death years ago! OH WAIT............! Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

In this case, no such proposal or organisation exists - you'd be voting for a 'change' without any notion of the consequences, and those consequences could be catastrophic for XH558. Safe ground to turn round and jeer something along the lines of 'Yeah but it couldn't be any worse!'... but it could...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

As one final gesture, funds need raising for a road move. There is STILL the goodwill for that, providing that the money raised is ONLY used for the transportation of XH558, then all can finally step away with a shred of dignity still intact. I can't go along with that. Raising funds would be just ...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

As I've said before, I just don't think XH558 will benefit from anyone ( enthusiast or VTTS ) crying over spilt milk at this stage. For me, it's simply about whichever option is aimed at maintaining this working Vulcan under cover for the long term, and then getting on with it. Frankly, VTTS' plan ...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

It would be nice to think they might have some regrets privately but not willing to say publically they got it wrong - which would likely torpedo any slim chance of a hangar investor coming forward and curtail the funding raising/wage bill. However I hear nothing but bullish arrogance that they are ...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

The Vulcan xh558 Spares stores are having a big sale on Saturday the 19th of May. Lots of new lots for sale if your intrested in this type of stuff. I wonder if after all the parts have finally been sold off they start selling bits of 558 herself? Maybe you'll be able to buy the bit of wing with yo...

Simple really.

Thanks for the advise vulcan558! I've donated plenty to the VRT over the last 30 years and visited her countless times too. The VRT are also a major beneficiary in my will.

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

106500 I admire your optimism, and indeed there is more chance of Doncaster Airport remaining in its present form a few decades from now that Bruntingthorpe or Wellesbourne. However that hardly matters if Doncaster isn't any good for displaying a running a Vulcan and too expensive to house one even ...

I can only imagine they are selling it to an audience that simply does not know about other opportunities to experience similar or better events for a literal fraction of the price. I can't imagine anyone on this forum would attend, unless they are deeply involved in the organisation. Don't Bruntin...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

This is the lunacy of Pleming's master plan of keeping 558 at a busy airport. You will never be able to get large numbers of people anywhere near the action - and certainly need a fence between them and the aircraft. So it will remain a premium event until there is no one left prepared to pay the pr...

Re: Visit the Vulcan Day - Southend this Sunday

Wow I don't WANT the price to go up! But if the VRT were able to raise more money by holding a small event which might be easier to get the airport to agree to what is the harm in that? Of course I'd much rather 1000 people paid a £5 each to fund the event but if that can't be arranged with the airp...

Re: Visit the Vulcan Day - Southend this Sunday

As we have read today that VTTST are again selling XH558 engine runs for £100 per person, is there any chance the VRT could do something similar with XL426? I'd be prepared to pay a premium amount to watch an engine run up close, but would rather give my money to the VRT where it will be used for so...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

Its truly amazing people are prepared to pay this amount of money just for an engine run. But as apparently they are why dont the other two runnable Vulcans not cash in on this and do some paid engine runs themselves, think of the funds they could raise that wouldn't have to be syphoned off in wages...

Re: Where has XH558 thread gone?

Thanks for obtaining this info Rich. The wording suggests that full OEM support if required for a ferry flight, so as we know this has been withdrawn it seems unlikely it is feasible. Whether RR, BAe, Marshalls et al could be persuaded to sign off on a ferry flight only is another matter - if they c...
