Re: Season Premiere - 11th May

Was a story of two halves for me, I've wanted the DH-9 to attend Shuttleworth the moment it first flew, just seems to fit so right there and with the weather, I wasn't sure it would make the journey again. Delighted to see it and with the Bristol Fighter too, it certainly made a great pairing but it...

Re: Season Premiere - 11th May

I didn't think of Uber so thankyou! I guess the Shuttle Bus was stopped because of a lack of demand, it was also free so it would have been an easy way to reduce a small output. It's a shame though because getting to Biggleswade from London is very easy indeed, the last couple of miles are not unfor...

Re: Season Premiere - 11th May

Does anyone know if taxis are easy to get from Bigglewade station?

First time getting public transport there and I believe the shuttle bus to the airshow is a thing of the past!

Easily one of the nicest warbirds in the UK. Been here since 1986 as well, certainly be missed!

The Sea Vixen is absolutely stunning. Out of all the aircraft lost on the airshow scene, for me, this is the biggest loss.

Definitely miss Yeovilton too!

That first picture of the York is absolutely stunning, such a beautiful aircraft. Such a abject shame space couldn't be found for it in a Cold War exhibit.

Re: Sywell Airshow 2024

If they were totally happy with the outcome, brilliant. I don't think there are many airshows that expect to make lots of money. It was however, easily one of the top events of the year. There is a thread dedicated to remembering and reflecting on Richard's legacy. So I do feel this is the appropria...

Re: Sywell Airshow 2024

It was the only reason- it was RG’s baby and he wanted it to be the best it could be and he and his team succeeded in spades. Blue skies TT Though I don't disagree with the latter part, I'd struggle to see Sywell 2024 as a financial success - unless you know otherwise. It unfortunately wasn't super...

Re: Sywell Airshow 2024

Can’t help but thinking it wasn’t the sole reason it was decided to not have the airshow in 2025.

Sad news all round really.

A truly great display in 2024 and a really nice venue.

Re: Another jet warbird gone? Canberra to India?

The Canberra (despite it being record breaking upon introduction) was never going to be a 'star of the show' item for the general public. I myself saw it as a 'already got some good shots of that' aircraft after it appeared at Southport. It wasn't really ever going to be a repeat draw airshow listi...

What a boring and drab aeroplane.
Can you name me any that aren’t nowadays?
In this particular category granted there isn't much to choose from however I think the E-7 looks particularly pallid.

Re: Duxford Sunderland to move outside

There isn't too much there that personally excites me about the the future of IWM Duxford. Interestingly, that page makes no mention of the plans for the Sunderland and other displaced exhibits. The Lab sounds like an upgraded Conservation in Action hangar, so I do wonder if that will be kept or the...

The Tucano is an aeroplane I thought I'd see a lot more of in civilian hands after it's retirement from the RAF but great to see ZF372 preserved!

Re: Duxford Diary 2024

As I'm sure many of you have already heard, IWM's Airspace Hangar is undergoing a major refurbishment next year. This includes so far the removal of Short Sunderland ML796, Avro York G-ANTK, De Havilland Comet 4 G-APDB and De Havilland Dove G-ALFU all for external display. To add to this they are d...

Re: Duxford Sunderland to move outside

I think it's fair to say this Cold War exhibition is, at the very least, very likely to happen. There's been so many mumerings regarding it, I think there has to be some truth behind that. Some aircraft will have to be permanently displaced as they aren't all appropriate for a Cold War exhibition. A...

Re: Duxford Sunderland to move outside

I think this is strange to say the least. There is already, a very good, Cold War museum I don’t know how the IWM could considerably improve on that exhibit. I guess you could say one museum shouldn’t stop another from having a similar themed exhibit but at the cost of what’s going to happen with th...
