Pity about the F-5s but you still got some nice shots. What's that in shots 9 & 10?

Re: F35 in the news again
I'd love to see a comparison of the through-life support costs for a mixed fleet. From what I've read there's very little commonality. It's the same reason we didn't chop half of the Harrier fleet and half of the Tornado fleet. Having fewer types is a huge cost saving.

Bahrain Airshow Fri 17 Nov 2018
Excellent day out but slightly frustrated by the haze and cloud. If anyone's thinking of going in 2020 make sure you get a trade pass as the public don't get access to the static display. 1. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4910/45243104884_c6c833834a_b.jpg Bahrain Air Show_01 by STEVEN BARNETT , on F...

Re: Tornado swing wing question
The keyway and slot arrangement between the pylon and wing housing should make it idiot-proof, but.....! I guess the performance of the jet in the air would also tell you if they were not straight aligned. Fuel burn etc. Not fuel burn, maybe buffeting/airframe vibration. More likely somebody on the ...

Re: BBMF Grounded
If (God forbid) we were at war big time now and a fault was found with a Typhoon engine, I wonder what would happen? But we're on operations now and have been for decades. Do you think the RAF are bodging Tornados and Typhoons to get them in the air? We're in a state where commanders on the ground ...

Re: BBMF Grounded
You've got to check them all. Got to disagree with you there. Only certain types of failure will invoke a fleet check. Both one-off and repetitive failures are routinely repaired without the need to check the entire fleet for the same fault. There are many components which are known to be liable to...

Re: BBMF Grounded
Could be one of many reasons Craig. Fuel or oil contamination from a particular batch or supplier, only certain part numbers/modification standards of engine affected, a quality failing (material, parts or process) from the BBMF or BBMF-only subcontractor. It happens regularly in both the civilian a...

Re: RAF Cosford Air Show 2017 - [Main Topic]
Do you not think that the RAF has such expertise to pull it off?
No, they don't. And if they did, which operation, front line squadron or OCU should we release the manpower from?
Or should they do it all for free in their own time?

Re: RAF Cosford Air Show 2017 - [Main Topic]
Didn't he go back to Coningsby at high level though?
He may have been trying to get more information on the state of the ECS to help the groundcrew diagnose the fault. Recycle it, try different altitudes/attitudes/engine settings etc.
