Re: Canon EOS 80D Announced!
I had been looking at buying a 70d in the next week or so, looks like I'll be holding off for a month or so. Hopefully the 70d will price drop. Usually does with that series of bodies. Pre-orders always go up at RRP or worse, then the price falls once stock starts to turn up. The last xxD body I bo...

A few from around the perimeter at Manchester on a (relatively) pleasant outing last Sunday. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1488/24398149734_b9d4c56ddc_b.jpg https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1516/24998754446_fbcaabc9d6_b.jpg https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1574/24398227653_55e88e9d7a_b.jpg https://farm...

CH Pro Throttle and Fighterstick. Again, not cheap (probably paid just over £200 for the pair) but ridiculously configurable and built to last. Second time round i've bought their kit as I had more or less the same (just the lower spec Flightstick) in the pre-USB gameport days.

Re: A-10 to go on till 2022 and the B-52 foreverr?
It will be a sad day when the world's only eight-engine bomber becomes just another boring four-engine high-bypass eco-friendly smokeless turbo-fan, but I guess the day is coming sooner or later. Get those coal-burning pictures while you can! John I know its been looked into in the past but i've al...

20.2MP CMOS Sensor What?? Damn, even the 5D3 has 2mp more. They're onto a loser if they can't compete with the D5 with regards to AF and noise performance. At this point canon are losing both, I though't they try to add the 5DS sensor to at least have one important trump card. I would've thought th...

Hopefully someone has learnt the lessons about flying from the US to Japan from the F-22's experience of crossing the date line.

Re: F35 threads take over the internet
My understanding is that they will be arriving in the back of a C5 (hence why it is on static display at FAB this year) and not flying across the pond(but I stand to be corrected)!! I don't see why that would be, the plan last time was for them to fly themselves over. Besides, can you even take the...

Was the trip two years ago that was scrubbed due to the fleet grounding not meant to be for RIAT and Farnborough also?

I'm thinking of buying a Flash unit for the camera, and looking for some tech help. The units I would be interested in buying come with a shoe to use off camera. I think I understand the wireless thingy, but some of the blurb on a couple of items I'm looking at mention flash synch or camera set up....

Re: Sigma 150-600C with Canon 1.4x Extender (v2)?
Last time I had one from each brand side by side then the protrusion from both Canon and Sigma ones looked the same, so if one fits i'd expect the other one to fit too. Probably no surprise that Sigma's website only mentions their own TC (its not like any lens company would pimp another manufacturer...

Re: Important notice regarding visits to RAF Scampton
So what is the specific issue of standing under the extended centreline of a runway while aircraft are landing? Aircraft flying low overhead perhaps? What is the specific issue of standing underneath while aircraft are displaying? Again aircraft flying low overhead. The risk in both cases is very s...

Re: Important notice regarding visits to RAF Scampton
.....I've shot on centrelines at Manchester numerous times but the geography dictates you're at pretty much zero risk from rolling overruns and something has got to come down probably about a quarter mile short of the tarmac for risk from anything landing. I imagine that's pretty much what those on...

Re: Important notice regarding visits to RAF Scampton
Out of interest (can't say i've ever been to Scampton or anywhere else where you can get particularly near the threshold) what is deemed to be the recommended exclusion zone? Assume an imaginary extension of the runway and don't encroach into that? I've shot on centrelines at Manchester numerous tim...

A slightly snowy and chaotic Manchester
Some fun and games at Manchester this morning with the 'main' runway (23R/5L) being shut for 2-3 hours due to some surface damage. All traffic was temporarily shoved onto 23L once that had been cleared of overnight snow, which requires landing traffic to do a u-turn (or use a loop at the far end for...

A very quiet year for me, Southport being my only show of the year due to other stuff going on in my life. Had a leaf through the stuff from that, and two Vulcan farewell visits to Woodford. Finally I stuck on this, which was from a stop-off at Manchester on the way home from a total blank day for t...

I used to work right under the Manchester approach path and, whilst I couldn't identify everything by ear alone, I could certainly pick out certain ones. The Lufthansa MD-11F we got over most days was very distinctive, as were the Virgin 747-400's.

What about a bit of joined up thinking that we so often lack in this country........ Build HS2 from central London, via Heathrow, up the side of the M40 to Birmingham International/Airport and onwards to central Birmingham and points North. This then gives BHX the new London/South East runway, you ...

Not sure of the numbers but most of the LHR freight come and goes in the hold of the long haul passenger flights. Re: New London runway
As for airlines not minding what time of day they get in/out, I expect that's true of long hau not really - if you are operating a hub you want the long haul in early to feed the other traffic to 'smaller European airports' not dribs and drabs throughout the day - why do you think most arrive early...
