Re: Edwards AFB Airshow 2022

Capitulated and booked some last minute flights…anyone else planning to do some low level in the sidewinder the week before? I'll be doing the Sidewinder on Wednesday afternoon and all day Thursday. I hear the Mig 29 is planning a LL run on the Wednesday... p.s. The Mig comment is a complete fabric...

Re: AIRPOWER22 - Zeltweg, Austria

Has anyone done the show and got the train in? Accommodation options in the local area look very limited so close to the show. Also, is it a full show on the Friday and Sat and are both open to the public? Cheers JJC Did it on the train from Vienna in a day. 3 hours standing in the vestibule as lot...

Glad I had a lie in reading this! Rocked up at 11:20 with no queue whatsoever!

Great show, shame about the weather for the wasps and the Wildcat having an issue, but otherwise a good day out.

The equivalent five day spotter package at Zeltweg (reportedly superior to FRIAT), is €250.
But then normal entry is free at Zeltweg, so might not be a totally fair comparison.

A static wish that popped in to my head today: a line up of trainers for each stream (Fast Jet/Transport/Rotary) showing the progression of a trainee with a frontline type at the end from the OCU…. Think: Prefect - Texan - Hawk - Typhoon Prefect - Phenom - C130 Prefect - Juno - Jupiter - Chinook Ide...

The internet archive seems to have saved a state on 17 Apr 21 if that helps anyone retrieve some of the lost posts.

Edit, actually they seem to have saved the structure, but not individual posts 😢

Re: 48 Hr Photo Comp - Lost Locations

Apologies for being a day late, but what a fantastic thread of photos and memories. Exactly what I was looking for with the theme. Honourable mentions go to: Seamus and that lovely well lit harrier (and the sunset Sea King!) The winter Jags from LN Strike Eagle and Rebel 14 Preoch’s H135 shot....mak...

48 Hr Photo Comp - Lost Locations

Inspired by a walk around Greenham Common the other day, now a lovely nature reserve, I was wishing I had been around to see it in its heyday. Then I thought of all the places I’d spent many hours photographing aeroplanes and how many had changed and the happy memories that I had taken from them. Fo...

Re: 48 Hours Photo Comp: Autumn conditions

Thanks Ridgeback. That was my last ever pass from a UK Harrier, and the colours and lighting couldn’t have been better.

Another great crop of entries though. New competition up shortly.

Re: 48 Hour Photo Comp - Ageing Aircraft Audit

Some superb entries in a tricky category (I actually originally went with 30 years, but changed it to make it a bit more difficult!) What amazes me is how good some of these old designs are still looking! Honourable mentions go to Preoch and AndyPh for fantastic sets of 3, and Nick for the Il-20 and...

48 Hour Photo Comp - Ageing Aircraft Audit

Whilst being wowed by modern high tech airliners and fighter jets may be some people’s cup of tea, the true stars of any show or photography trip are the slightly dirty, almost knackered, workhorses that are still soldiering on years after they were originally intended to be retired. For this compet...

Re: Microsoft Flight Simulator Returns

I broke out my old southern England VFR chart and spent an hour and a half bimbling around in the cub trying to accurately fly cross country last night. I’ve not been so engrossed in a sim for a long time, and the ability to follow roads and railway lines and plan routes based on landmarks is incred...

On the contrary, probably more likely to spot them than an A400 at 500ft!
