They have the option to close the entrance to the car park when all the tickets have sold-out.

Are we able to contact RIAT or does someone from DBH watch this . You could post on their FB page https://bit.ly/2LBvSY0 - they seem quite responsive to answering questions there. I'd like to understand how many departures day tickets will be available on the day. What percentage of total tickets i...

I can now envisage far more people than can be accommodated turning up at arrivals and departures and all trying to be the first there. It'll be gridlock before 6am and then the chaos of those trying to leave whilst others are still arriving and some driving to try their luck at the other end ........

Re: Pentax Users (Advice?)

I rather think you'd find 300mm somewhat restricting for aviation - especially after having had 500mm available. Also, the Sigma 18-300mm is f/6.3 at the long end of the zoom, which isn't very good for 300mm. When it comes to 3rd party lenses, unfortunately Pentax is not very well supported, especia...

Bear in mind that the maximum aperture varies across the zoom range - f/3.5 is only at the short (18mm) end - zoom in to 400mm and the aperture closes to f/6.3

Re: RIAT 2018 discussion

Surely they need to look at increasing the capacity, I guess it's the parking that is the issue rather than the enclosure capacities? Judging by how crowded the enclosures have been the past couple of years, I'd assumed the enclosure capacity to be the issue (but I could be wrong) and given the con...

Re: RAW for razor-sharp?

Very few if any Pro photographers use JPEG. I wouldn't be too sure about that - I believe that most professional photographers who have to work to tight publication deadlines (e.g. journalism), use jpeg for speed - they simply don't have the time to post-process raw images. I do however, fully agre...

Re: RAW for razor-sharp?

........... Once I'm done and I've completed my workflow, I save it to a new location, close the original file and do not save changes. The original file is unharmed. If you've got into the habit of working that way and it suits you, then fine, however for anyone else considering this, bear in mind...

I can't help, but while there may be one or two on here who have attempted similar subjects, I'd suggest that you'd be more likely to find people with the relevant experience to be able to advise you, on a nature photography forum.

Re: RAW for razor-sharp?

Looking at both pictures side by side using a programme called faststone and straight out of the can so to speak. I honestly couldn't see much difference between the two .... RAW images are not viewable in their native format; hence every RAW file has a (high compression) jpeg 'preview' embedded wi...

Re: RAW for razor-sharp?

I believed that the reason for capitalising RAW is to indicate that it refers to a format, be that cr2, nef, or whatever, whereas 'raw' in lowercase is simply a descriptive adjective, as in "the raw data", but I rather doubt that there is a definitive answer to the question.

Re: RAW for razor-sharp?

Purely in terms of sharpness, AFAIK, there's no difference between RAW & jpeg, however RAW does offer several advantages to getting the best out of an image in post-processing. Having said that, what you start out with dictates the quality of the end result, i.e. technique, lens, sensor - in tha...

Re: Photo Editing, Laptop or Desktop

Although I have both, I wouldn't consider using the laptop for photo editing as IMO, you can never have too much screen space. However, I do have an "office" at home with a powerful desktop PC (self-built) and triple monitor setup, which enables me to view an image full-screen on one monit...

Re: Nikon D500 Question

I have a D500 - coupled with a Sigma 100-400mm is a great combination. The Sigma is compact and light - not much bigger than a 70-300mm and IQ is excellent, right through to the full 400mm extent. In comparison reviews I've seen, it equals the fabled Canon 100-400mm for sharpness, however the zoom a...

Not quite ....... doing the maths, if 50,000 = 75%, then 100% = 66,666 (and a decimal point with a lot of recurring sixes after)

To elaborate - OS1 attempts to correct for movement in both lateral and vertical axes; so is intended for stationary subjects (e.g. hovering helicopter), whereas OS2 only corrects for vertical movement and is intended to be used for panning shots, however some say that OS is only effective at slower...

Re: RAF Scampton Air Show 2017

I'd always assumed that the main reason for shows going over to 'advance tickets only' was the unpredictability of the weather. With 'on the gate' tickets, if the weather is bad and few punters turn up, the organisers (and traders) stand to make a substantial loss, whereas advance tickets guarrantee...
