Re: It's not "naughty" it's dangerous!

Yes, I was in the field for the September show. Yes, tickets had sold out and people were being turned away on the gate. Shows at DX seem to be doing pretty well for themselves! The principle still applies, that show only did well because lots of people did the right thing, got there early and paid...

Re: It's not "naughty" it's dangerous!

I have to say I don't buy the whole thing about 'it is no more dangerous than driving on a motorway'. That is just borne out of statistics rather than common sense. This site should be about promoting airshow going in a safe and responsible manner. That does not include intentionally going to areas ...

Re: It's not "naughty" it's dangerous!

Yes of course you are right, being in a crowd does not guarantee one's safety. However, with your 22 years' experience, I am sure you know along with me that being in a crowd makes it less likely that you will be involved in an incident should one occur.

Re: It's not "naughty" it's dangerous!

I'm sorry but if an aircraft traveling at high speed suffers a structural failure or similar there is no way of telling in which direction the resulting aerodynamic forces will cause it to go ....and before someone says it, the kinetic energy will not ensure it goes in a straight line, especially i...

Re: It's not "naughty" it's dangerous!

I think that HawkDisplay makes very valid points, I think not only in relation to DX but all show venues. I can appreciate that people like the opportunity to take good photographs, and the quality shown here week in week out is not in question. There are some outstanding shots posted on this forum....

Re: RAF Hawk Display Withdrawn

No one is suggesting that it is appropriate for newspapers to over use sensationalist terms like those mentioned, however there is a need to use language everyone understands, rather than employing technical terminology the like of which would be used in an accident report. You have to tailor the me...

Re: RAF Hawk Display Withdrawn

Can't understand why people get so annoyed about 'dreadful journalism standards' all the time? We have a hobby that makes us naturally knowledgeable about aviation, some of us to a macro level. Journalists are paid to have a general knowledge of all subjects without specialising. I read the Mail art...

Close your eyes and be there again!

Just found this amazing website with some lovely recordings of aircraft at airshows - really atmospheric!

Re: Rougham 15th August

This was my first time at Rougham, thought the display was very nice and varied. Steve Jones flew MH434 very gracefully (anyone lucky enough to see Lee P display at OW yesterday and Steve J today at Rougham will be able to make a good comparison, as both venues have similar topsidetastic qualities! ...

Re: Sunday at Damyns Hall

Nice shots, you must have been live side for a few of those... This was a good little show, has the potential to grow year on year i think. Mike Pickin is a maturing young display pilot and he gave a lovely routine in the Jungmann. He shows just what an aerobatic aircraft it is... (and his dad Richa...

Re: Saturday thoughts

Sorry, I meant entrance security, the whole bag scanning thing was poorly organised, staff did not seem to know who was doing what, at least in my experience, perhaps others fared better. I forgot to mention 1 more thing, the screeching girl with what seemed to be NO knowledge of aviation did not pu...

Re: Daily flying programmes - provisional

I really enjoy watching big airliners being thrown around the sky, can't see why this kind of thing is not worthy of an airshow?

Saturday thoughts

Well, I went to the Saturday show. Here are my thoughts: Exhibition halls I totally understand that the big business is done and dusted by the weekend and there is nothing to be gained financially from being present on public days but it would be nice to see more companies make the effort to hang ar...

Re: Some daft angles from RIAT.

I think these are excellent, seeing aircraft as a sculptural form is a really interesting angle on the hobby, and more interesting than endless close cropped flying shots that have no imagination. It is very true that long and expensive lenses do not a good photographer make, great shots start in th...

Re: RIAT 2010 Feedback

I went on Saturday. Overall, very good I thought. Got the bus from Swindon so had no experience of what I heard were bad delays on a couple of routes for various reasons (accident etc). Raptor was the dogs - I know for sure I have never seen anything like it in 25 years of airshows. Commentary total...

Good luck Dan (& Ben?)

As the tension starts to mount before one of the best airshows on Earth, I just wanted to wish Mr O'Hagan (and I presume Ben is doing it again this year also) best of luck for the commentary. I'm sure that doing last year has helped them a great deal in preparation for this year, and even last year ...

Re: Legends 2010

A great Sunday show indeed. I remember watching the seafire infront of me thinking 'why is he not pulling higher?' , he has to get more height! Seemed the prop was about 6ft clear of the ground for an age, anyway it was ok in the end - anyone have any theory why he was so low? Similarly, not sure an...
