Re: BBMF to give away LF363!?
It's probably all Gordon Brown's idea. Don't worry, Dave will stop it when elected.

Re: Is there a reason you don't buy Airshow DVD's anymore?
I agree with much of the above. I've never been a fan of 'single show' DVDs (with the exception of RIAT) as the line-up of aircraft at most shows these days - whilst entertaining on the day - rarely lends itself to exciting home viewing. I'm happy to watch good modern jet and warbird footage, but 10...

Re: A new high in quality journalism
Will we learn the lesson though? When we read a newspaper article or headline on a subject where we're not experts, will we treat it with as much skepticism? The next time we're being incited to hate Muslims or being assured that our entire way of life is at threat from Eastern European migrants, w...

Re: Gutter Press attack RAF Families' Days
I fully support service familes being given joyrides in Chinooks as a 'thank you' for all the support they give and the hardships they put up with. What I do object to is civilians getting rides in Chinooks at events just because they have the word "Commentator" on their back whilst their ...

Re: Gutter Press attack RAF Families' Days
Presumably the same UKAR members will show the same disbelieving reaction the next time the press publishes a "Gordon Brown to build 6,000 houses for immigrants" story or such like ... or will they assume the story is correct?

Re: SeaVixen?
Well, naturally, as the Vixen was stuck on the deck... Not on the Saturday, it wasn't. (I am right in saying that the best displays are judged on Saturday, aren't I?) Edit - agreed re: Miss D, that was a stonking display. Nigel Lamb takes it for me though; his MH434 closing solo was remarkable. It ...

Re: Flying Display 2009
You crossed on a fenced-off strip of grass next to the fence at the southern end of the main runway. As far as I can recall, you were still allowed to cross when aircraft were displaying, although sometimes people were stopped at either side during a fast jet or heavy bomber display. You weren't all...

Re: What did you think of this years Show
As for the traffic problems, get their earlier, its that simple, got their about nine each day : I did and im sure a lot of people on this board did, I havnt seen any complaints about traffic getting in to the show, it was the farce getting out. Agree - most gripes are about getting to the exit at ...

Re: SeaVixen?
If all the above is true, this is a really BAD call from the air display organisers. Apart from the Reds/747 flypasts and Red Arrows display, any of the display items could have been dropped.

Re: The Great British Airshow Robbery
Like it or lump it, event organisers are faced with "full cost recovery" for Police costs so must take them into account. Either that or they can police the event themselves and deal with the consequences if things go wrong. I don't see why the council tax payers in a local authority shoul...

Re: Chelsfield Fair - Flying Displays - Sat 11th July
..£1 to get in .. You could, of course, freeload from outside. A local farmer is opening up one of his fields nearby for 50p, so if you want to just watch the planes and avoid paying the full £1 to get into the fete itself you can do so. Take the Orpington exit from the M25 and follow the signs say...

Re: Toilets
Despite the fact that RIAT is well over 2 months away, I feel the urge to join in the mindless posting. Could anyone advise whereabouts the toilets will be situated this year? This is a good question. My contacts at RIAT inform me that there will be NO toilets at RIAT this year. They estimate that ...

Re: Sally B Display Dates 2009
Disappointing to see Cosford only listed as a flypast, surely if she's up the show can manage to afford a display? I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but 'Flypast' in this instance refers to shows where the aircraft will perform a full display, but will not land/will operate from elsewh...

Re: Harrier no go
What winds people up is the total collapse in RAF participation at air displays in the past five years or so. It wasn't too long ago when we had Harrier, Tornado GR4, Tornado F3, Nimrod, Hercules and Jaguar as regular perfomers. Now we're down to just one front-line type and a few trainers (Red Arro...

Re: De Havilland Aviation Gone?
Maybe but how many staff/volunteers do say 558 have compared with the Sea Vixen? I'm not sure that's really the point. If you can't deliver, you shouldn't take the public's money. I must admit, I was going to join the Sea Vixen Club but was put off when a friend joined and didn't hear anything. The...

Re: De Havilland Aviation Gone?
Well, still no word from De Havilland Aviation on these boards, even though their MD has been online today... It's bad PR for the aircraft as much as anything. Imagine if you paid for a football season ticket, but weren't invited to any games for the first six months... As a Charlton Athletic fan, ...

I think Southend Council should scrap the airshow and direct the funds into more needy areas such as education.
