Re: RIAT 2023 Discuss everything thread
The ground by the food marquees is turning very mushy now. Another day of this it will be like Glastonbury. Still tipping down now.

I think the Phantom is parked in the western loop, (which you can’t get to today) because I haven’t seen it.

Staying at Premier in Swindon West. £238 for Weds/Thursday arrivals. Not doing the main show weekend.

Re: RIAT 2023 Discuss everything thread
I am going to mainly do statics tomorrow I think. My overriding reason for going this year (Weds, Thurs and tomorrow) was to catch the Phantoms arriving. Of all the aircraft to cancel, then one turn up out of hours, it had to be them! A good day today though otherwise, Hornet display, F-16, Rafale, ...

Re: Fairford 1993 - 30th anniversary of that Air Tattoo
My first IAT. The film in my camera jammed just as the Migs hit each other. Lost most of that roll of film. It was soaking wet on the Saturday, the heater in my car was knackered so we took to drying our shoes and socks under the bonnet with the heat of the engine! 75th anniversary of the RAF that y...

That’s ok. There were two or three other people with cameras there. Up to two hours free parking, so I suppose if there is something special you want to catch it is quite handy.

Re: Flypast over Chelmsford
Some good shots there, lucky with the weather too. I was a little further south and managed to dodge the showers luckily, as I had a 15-20 minute walk to a vantage point. The helicopters looked like they went along the line of the A12 rather than over your way.

King’s Birthday Flypast 2023
Here are a few photos from today’s flypast. The Helicopters came in a bit further south, so I ended up with quite a few backlit photos, I have included a couple here, rather than post the whole lot. The fixed wing elements came over where I expected, so got more side views that I wanted to get. http...

I think it usually comes in over Southwold or Aldeburgh area. Just seen SeaCat formation over south Essex heading towards Wattisham.

Re: King's Birthday flypast 17th June (aka Trooping the Colour)
I may have imagined it, but didn’t one year it fly in formation with a Bae 146? I seem to recall many years ago ( it may have been nonsense though), that because initially the aircraft were leased, there was a restriction for formation flying or something like that. That was in the early years thoug...

Re: RAF C130 retirement tour 14-06-23
I went up to Wivenhoe, but they went a lot further south. Maybe catch them at the Kings Birthday Flypast this weekend. It does seem ridiculous that our only transport and air refuelling base is put out of action by some hot weather. It happened last year didn’t it, so you have to wonder why they hav...

3x C130s up over the Norfolk coast. I wonder if this is a practice for the flypast, given the rumour that the lead A400M in the formation was to be replaced with a C-130.

Still pushing on with their space theme.
You do wonder whether they could have found additional space at the airfield, in one of the other HAS.
Can’t help thinking this whole horizontal space thing is a bit of a dead end.

Re: Cornwall aviation heritage centre
Seems strange that one of the two empty hangars can’t be used for short term storage. It’s not as if members of the public will be walking about having a look. It just sounds like they want to push them off site asap. I wonder who they have lined up to take over the lease.

Re: Kings Coronation flypast?
They might be trying to keep it lower key than in the past. Pageantry and Queen Elizabeth II seemed to all go hand in hand, (and in my view rightly so). I am not so sure people will see things in the same way now with King Charles III. With the cost of living crisis, and Charles’ life long eco-consc...

Re: Cornwall aviation heritage centre
Yes, well spotted, there was a bit of fuselage and inner wing of a TT18 there when I went last year. I think it was the remains of the one that was at Manston Fire Training School.

Interesting clip from Cornwall Live “ …Again, to assist the centre with their move, the council and Cornwall Airport Newquay have agreed to store several aircraft for free, leaving the museum to remove their smaller items. The council has also provided support, guidance and input on planning, busine...

…then there’s the question of the Shackleton. I understand this is owned by a separate organisation and assume this would not be subject to the same marching orders? It’s not owned by them, so I suppose could move over to Gate Guardians area. I don’t think they are being moved on, so perhaps they s...

Re: Cornwall aviation heritage centre
Mike is correct, I think there was a reason for it being registered as a company rather than a charity but don’t know why. It does seem odd that if you are paying your rent, have an educational facility and attract tourism that you would be wanting to get rid of such an asset to leave empty or fill ...
