Lunar Occultation of Mars 2022
Hello all, Bit late but a couple of images from the lunar occultation of Mars on the 8th December last year. It was at 5am and it was really cold. I had trouble keeping the mirrors on my telescope from freezing which meant I missed the moment it went behind the moon, but I had cleared the mirrors in...

Re: Unidentified wing section at IWM Duxford '686'
One thing Iโve learned from visiting many museums across the world is never, ever, EVER believe what the volunteers tell you. That reminds me of the story of the Security Guard at the Natural History Museum, who when asked how old Dippy the Diplodocus was, replied "64,000,012 years old" T...

LHR 747 query please
Hi all,
Between the days of 25th Jan and the 2nd Feb (one of the days) at approx 8am I saw a white 747 taxing to the end of 27L presumably for take off.
I can't see it on FR24 playback, would anyone be able to help me identify it?
Cheers,
Jeff

Frosty morning in Mad Bess Wood
Hello all, Few detailed images from a recent trip to Mad Bess Wood in Ruislip taking influence from Adam Gibbs on Youtube. There is one theory that the woods are named after the wife of an 18th Century gamekeeper, a deranged woman who used to prowl the woods looking for poachers therein. The local m...

Excellent ambition! Can't help but wonder if we're not looking at the birth of "MTTS" here, but with longevity/purpose & devoid of financial leeches attached to another similarly named enterprise? Correct me if I'm wrong here, but it wasn't exactly busy before the invasion ...

I really like the light on the Pen Y Fan and Corn Du but they are all at a very high standard.

Nice picture Tony.
I wanted to have a go at this this morning but completely forgot about it until about 30 minutes before it also wasn't high enough from the back garden and I would have had to drag my telescope through the house
Cheers,
Jeff

Example of Astro workflow
Hi all, In my other thread I have been explaining some of the process' involved in capturing and processing my astro imaging. I thought I would start another thread to try and illustrate what i've been trying to explain. This is the Pleaides image in that thread. That image is made from 'stacking' 3...

Hi Jeff Thanks for taking the time for a reply - I follow your reasoning. But it reads to me as if the artificially high black level (at 20) to not lose data makes perfect sense โ BUT should only apply to the intermediate steps . It seems to me โ once you have a final image though surely you can da...

Re: Media City Salford/Manchester
Hi Mooshie, For me the second one is the best one. Both the first and the third I find the star burst on the lights far too distracting, they are much smaller in the second image. Its also led to some lens flare in the third one. I think a larger aperture would solve that. I find the railing in the ...

Lovely stuff though Jeff. I went out to get some pictures of Comet Neowise but as it was July, the sky didn't really get dark enough, still had fun though. Thanks Wes, glad you like them. Comet Neowise was fun, I dragged my kids out of bed at 2am to view it, I think they appreciated it ๐ Cheers, Jeff

A quartet of outstanding images, Jeff! I, too, have been fascinated by the night sky but have not pursued it due to work and family commitments. Thanks for the info. Do you go out to find a "dark sky" area or do you just go into the garden? If so - how dark is it? I will occasionally try to find somewhere darker and every summer we go to the south coast which has Bortle 4 skies, the scale goes from 1 (no light pollution) to 9 (lot...

Interesting stuff - thanks. What is the significance of the different colours of the stars? Brilliant photographs. I understand that there is quite a bit of work involved with layering etc. I especially like the Pleiades. This is one of my favourite patches of sky, and they do look beautiful even w...
