Re: Two Days on skomer island for Puffins *update*
Beautiful photos and I hope you can answer a question that always pops into my head when I see Puffins with a beak full. Exactly how do they get that many fish in their beak at once ? Is it a case of diving into a shoal that is so dense they inevitably fill their beak in one go, or do they have a cl...

Re: Recent solar activity
Superb photos. Wow. How do you take them? Thanks Sam, it s actually not technically difficult, it's more about having suitable equipment. You can use any camera, but obviously the more zoomed in the better. My telescope is the equivalent of a 1000mm lens and with the crop sensor on my camera that b...

Re: Recent solar activity
Each and every one is a stunner. Don’t know how you took them but they knocked me over. Thanks George and sorry for the late reply to you. Its taken with my Sywatcher 200 Explorer Scope which had a special filter on the front (£20 for an A4 sheet), but DON'T try it without, you will melt your camer...

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52024715258_4e2caeabf4_b.jpg IMG_9222-Edit1-2 by J G , on Flickr I do like this image, the aeroplane going across the face of the sun, really does show just how small we really are. When you consider that we are at a distance of approximately 92/93m miles from it...

Re: Recent solar activity
Thanks for the kind comments everyone. To answer your comment Starbuck, the sun spots haven't rotated but I've rotated the images to their correct orientation, (based on the aircraft). The first two are as captured based on how my camera was mounted on my telescope. I was aware that my camera orient...

Recent solar activity
Hello all, I thought I would share some images of the recent increase in solar activity. The sunspots in these images are all bigger than the Earth and have been responsible for some recent solar flares, but thankfully not in our direction. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52024715298_a1c4d6a8e9_...

Incredible images, another vote for #2, such a change to a green background.
But OMG, how dull is the F35 when compared to the F15?
Thankyou for sharing them.
Cheers,
Jeff

Farewell to the 146
Massive thankyou to Phil and everyone at RAF Northolt for organising today's Farewell to the 146 event. Quite strange to think I won't see them from my garden any more as they fly round the pattern, truely an end to an era at Northolt. I was always impressed with just how clean these aircraft and th...

Ultimately I have always been happy to provide my photography services to my employer for free as I am afforded excellent opportunities for unique access, it was the ...

Image cost?
Hi all, I've been asked to take a very specific aviation image at work which will be used by a third party company for promotion. The third party have said they are happy to pay for the image but the problem is I don't know what to expect or indeed what to ask for. Does anybody have experience in th...

Is there a touch of HDR in these Brian?
Not a criticism but a genuine query, but they are nice pictures all the same.
I really like the Trafalger Square with the fountains turned off.
Cheers,
Jeff

Last departure for BA 747 IVY and IVB
Hi all, Well, thats that then. I was there when they arrived and I was there when they left, the 747-200 was the first type I worked on in TBJ as an apprentice and my dad retired having been a flight engineer on the classis coal burners as well. I thought I would share these pictures from last weeks...

What a good idea and very effective, did you sit outside waiting or set the camera up and use a trigger release to get them ?

Re: DHL 757
Thanks both for the information.
Thats a shame, G-BIKX was one of the first aircraft I worked on after my apprenticeship in 1991, I was hoping it was in a new phase of life as a test aircraft.
Cheers,
Jeff

DHL 757
There is currently one of our old 75s floating around the west country. G-BIKX which I thought was now with DHL but has the callsign ETP88.
Does anybody know what its doing or who it is with? ETP? Empire Test Pilot?
Cheers,
Jeff

British Airways retro liveries
British Airways has just announced that as part of our 100 year celebrations we will be introducing some retro liveries. The first will be a BOAC 747 on the 18th February. More will follow but have not been confirmed yet. The grapevine is thinking 747s in Negus and Landor liveries, and possibly an A...
