48 Hour Photo Comp: Airshow Action

The thing that first hooked me into airshows, and indeed first encouraged me take photographs at airshows, was the dynamic spectacle. That fast moving, action packed flying display, full of speed, power, movement and aircraft doing things we didn't think possible. So the theme for this competition i...

Re: 48 Hour Photo Comp: Heavy Bombers

Thanks John, an honour indeed among the standard of entries. I think it was the B-52 that did all the work with that one though, I just pressed the shutter. :-) That photo was taken from the end of the airfield at Boscombe Down, from the photobus as we were waiting to cross the runway, according to ...

That last one is the Swashbuckler if I am not mistaken,
It’s not Andy, that shot was taken at Boscombe Down in 1990. Same era though.

Here you go, quick camera phone shots of an ancient manuscript.

Not a great deal of use unless you can find some identifying mark in the photograph.

Re: Last Last Lightning Show Binbrook 1987 info needed

I’ve got the checklist that was sold on the day. Not sure whether it details which airframe is where, I’ll check in a couple of hours when I can dig it out.

Re: Mildenhall Air Fete 1992

Lovely lovely stuff, from an absolute vintage year for airshows.

For goodness sake though, what a difference being on the other side of the runway has made - not a silhouette in sight. Unlike most of my Mildenhall sets!

Great spot to shoot the Antonov there Ian, you definitely got its best angle. Rare beast too.

The runway does look very wobbly indeed with that compressed perspective doesn't it.

Re: Aviation- On This Day

Awesome stuff from Beale there Ian. A return trip to Kennedy Space Center for me, in 2009 this time. A couple of aviation shots to share: The hack used for photo/TV runs around the launch pad https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50270985802_239dc4e925_o.jpg And this T-38, which I'd seen flying around...

Re: 48hr Photo Comp - RAF Harrier

hmm, I need to pick some Harrier shots I haven't used before. I'm going fairly old school too, sadly not as far back as the GR1, one of my earliest airshow memories sadly unphotographed, https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50083128973_8bb29f28da_o.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/4783/26899212738_7...

Not great shot, this was a surprise as I was out on the water of Boca Ciega Bay - a WP-3D 'Hurricane Hunter' operating out of MacDill AFB.

Another Florida trip, this time 2009, and a visit to Kermit Weeks' now closed 'Fantasy of Flight' at Polk City. There are still grand plans for this place, as there were then. https://live.staticflickr.com/4702/26683211638_f80b0595a3_o.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/4742/40554525141_3061e52a2e_o....

Re: Aviation- On This Day

Airshow time again. 2007, and the sweet little waterfront Albert Whitted in St Pete, Florida. It was a great little show, but cloud and an on crowd wind make most of the photos look like thay were taken on a wet day in Sunderland rather than very warm Florida. https://live.staticflickr.com/4525/3831...

Re: Aviation- On This Day

this thread keeps on giving. Great stuff. Just a single shot from me. Back to 2007, and a fun holiday day out at Kennedy Space Center. It was a small bit of luck to be passing the runway when a couple of astronaut's T-38s landed, this being one. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50270787556_cc26e7...

Re: Aviation- On This Day

1989, and a midweek airshow at Scampton to celebrate the Red Arrows' 25th Anniversary. There was a full programme, of both solo displays from home and abroad, and teams (the latter including Italy, France, Switzerland, Portugal). It was a show to remember, but unfortunately I didn't get round to sca...

Re: 1983 - 1990 Scans from Negatives

a quick google tells me that £6 of 1985 is £18.60 in today's money. For 36 frames. Kind of puts it into context for today's machine gunners. Kodachrome had very little exposure latitude either, and meters were very easily fooled by skies. Its no wonder we learned to 'read' the light. It does really ...
