This forum is, and always has been, what its members make of it.

It’s genuinely heartwarming to see both the rate of new members joining, and the goodwill shown here. You are, each and every one of you, (even you lurkers!) very welcome here, and on a personal level I want to do everything possible to help you enjoy this place for what it is.

For now, historical threads will be in AvWaffle as normal, but we’re discussing the idea amongst staff members, so to everyone, new and old, if any of you have any suggestions for this or any other ideas (or a general chat about anything!), feel free to PM me or any of the other people with red/yellow usernames.

Always difficult and a slightly uncomfortable feeling to be welcomed into a forum and then to start asking for things, but can I add my support to the idea of the creation of a historic forum?

I think it would go a long way towards underlining the feeling that UKAR is the key place to visit for discussion on historic aviation matters.

Probably too late to resurrect it now, but for those interested, see

Key Publishing has really "shot itself in the foot" by migrating their forums un-announced

In Key's defence - as much as I hate to say that - the mods have been reinstated and are "in the loop" with the behind-the-scenes folks regarding upgrades etc. But I don't envy them at all.

That said, I'm glad to see new Duxford activity on here most days and it brightens my day. Long live Duxford Diary!

Cannot thank all involved enough. Duxford Diary is my go to site first thing in the morning, and I was a tad miffed that it appeared gone. Living in South Australia it is my only connection with what's going on. I have been lucky enough to visit Duxford several times on our travels, just love the history of the place.
So thanks again, you posts, your photos are appreciated and valued.

Yes, they realised that particular mistake quite quickly! So we were reinstated, but we cant actually do much in the way of moderation right now. My guess is that they were working towards a deadline - of when the magazine was relaunched, and so went live on the website before it was actually ready.

Ho hum!

The Blenheim is scheduled for the poppy drop at 1400.

Two-Minute Silence 11am
Site March 12.45pm
IWM Service Of Remembrance 1pm-2pm
Poppy Drop over the airfield approx. 2pm

There's also a good chance of seeing one or two Spitfires flying

So now Duxford will have 2 Tornados and no Typhoon. I thought the Typhoon had done it's aerial warfare bit in Syria and Afghanistan (?) to qualify for retention at Duxford.

As a type, I guess so, but this particular one hasn't done any of that as an avionics development aircraft. Perhaps the IWM is waiting for another Typhoon that has been to Syria and/or Afghanistan.

I was thinking the same, though EAP takes pride of place there, so I don’t know whether they would have wanted it.

It’s great to see it go to a smaller museum, Tbf.

The RAF Museum already have a Eurofighter prototype in their collection. They don't have room for all the prototypes as it is, having taken the pre-production Tornado off display.
