A visit to Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar 06/01/17

Post by Matt35027 »

Hello all, I visited the Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar yesterday for a hangar tour. The tour was immensely enjoyable and it was great to get up close to all the aircraft in the fleet, if you haven't been, I highly recommend it.

A couple of questions, can you say what Spitfires are in the hangar, and also are the restoration's in a separate hangar?

Certainly, the current Spitfire residents are:

Spitfire Mk I P9372 - Excavated remains on display
Spitfire Mk Vb EP122
Spitfire Mk Vc EE602
Spitfire T8 MT818
Spitfire T9 MJ627
Spitfire T9 BS410 - Restoration/rebuild
Spitfire T9 MJ772 - Accident damaged, in storage
Spitfire Mk IX LZ842 - Restoration/rebuild
Spitfire Mk IX BR601
Spitfire Mk IXe TA805
Spitfire Mk IXe MK912 - Accident damaged, in storage
Spitfire FR XIVe RM927 - Fuselage only (I think), in storage
Spitfire Mk XVIe RW832
Spitfire Mk XVIe TE184
Spitfire Mk XVIe TB885 - Restoration/rebuild

Restorations are done in the 'main' hangar (the one with the 109, MJ627 and others in), the hangar next door is where some of the operational fleet is kept, as well as the crash-damaged mark 9s and the fuselage of RM927

LAHarve The tour was about 1 hour 15 mins but I also did the 'sit in a Spitfire experience' which added about 10-15 mins.

tankbuster81 Most of the aircraft at the hangar are owned by other individuals or groups. Peter Monk owns TA805, MK912 and the Hurricane (as well as the business, and a whole heap of parts) MJ627 and MJ772 two seaters are owned by Warbird Experiences which is the sister company of BHHH and operate the passenger rides.
