If this war is still going ahead in April the world is beeped, this action isn't going to last long - Russia has already requested peace talks once with Ukraine in the past 24 hours.

I have high confidence this will be all over or at the very least have simmered down by April

@uktopgun

RIAT is exceptionally meaningful. It means an awful lot to the people who put on the show, the volunteers, the air arms who attend, the public who attend, the list is endless really. I would also argue that it is extremely important to forge international relationships between air arms, even strengthen friendships between nations. Since when has the spirit of international cooperation been meaningless? There is a lot more value to the event other than what we see as members of the public.

I think what you actually are trying to say is that it's a low priority event in the current circumstances and that there are more important things going on right now, and I'm pretty sure you'd be right, but to call it meaningless is just plain wrong.

Additionally I would also, optimistically, point out that Cobra Warrior was due to take place very soon, whereas RIAT is in July.

That's exactly what I mean, in the context of this year it's meaningless and of very low priority. No need for lectures about the inherent value of the event in peace time, of course that's the case.

As for over by April, keep wearing the rose tinted specs, our own govt admit this could last years.

I dearly hope you’re right

However I think you’re about as wrong as you possibly can be

Christ. Even if you're right, that's a poor understanding of what's currently happening and potential ramifications - airshows or not.

Evening All, just to reassure you all we remain absolutely focused on planning the delivery of RIAT22. Given successive cancellations due to COVID, the enthusiasm of everyone at RAFCTE is at unprecedented levels with planning for the event already at a mature stage and support from international air arms already exceeding our expectations. We are very conscious of the situation in Ukraine and we are naturally monitoring developments, but we remain committed to delivery of a successful, enjoyable and entertaining event in July.

Cheers,
Peter

Fantastic stuff Peter. Rest assured the enthusiasm is not limited to your team.

Fingers crossed RIAT will be even more pertinent this year as an event for allies and defence partners to come together, as well as for all of us enthusiasts yearning for its return!

I've just seen the news that the Ukraine su-27 display pliot who attended RIAT in 2017 and 2018 lost his life on Friday. I hope it will be possible to organise some sort of flypast or remembrance for him and all ukraines who lost their lives... Blue skies 💙💛

Just read this sad news from European Airshows page...

We have received some extremely shocking and sad news from Ukraine this morning.

Colonel Oleksandr “Grey Wolf” Oksanchenko who was the Ukrainian Air Force Flanker display pilot between 2013-2018 has lost his life on Friday night when his jet was shot down over Kyiv by Russian air defences.

Col. Oksanchenko was not only a very experienced pilot who won a number of awards for the best flying display at many events across Europe, but he was also a true fan of airshows. Despite leaving the active service and joining the reserves in late 2018 he volunteered to remain in the Ukrainian Flanker Solo Display Team as a coach/advisor and travelled with the team during the 2019 display season which was also the last airshow season for the team.

He came out of retirement to defend his country from the Russian invasion and paid the highest price. Col. Oksanchenko was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine by the president of the Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Blue skies sir and thank you for all your amazing displays!

Obviously it’s a terrible situation all around, not to denigrate from the awfulness of invasion itself, but this brings the awfulness of invasion an inch closer to me, personally, than it was before.

If you could count on one hand the most memorable participants of RIATs during the last decade, the return of the Ukrainian Su-27 in Col. Oksanchenko’s hands is very much amongst that number.

Very sad and devastating news. I sincerely hope that at this year’s event they perform a missing man formation tribute or similar. It’s the least that can be done in the circumstances.

It would be a very nice gesture from RIAT if the award he took home for his performance at the 2017 show could be renamed in his memory.

A true friend of RIAT and the European Display circuit.

Blue skies, sir.

Latest Update - 3 March 2022
We are very pleased to announce that the Finnish Air Force will be providing a Hawk solo flying display at RIAT 2022, an excellent contribution to our training theme. It is planned that their specially painted aircraft (registration HW-340) will be used for the display.

Further welcome additions to the flying display can now be confirmed from Switzerland; in the shape of their F/A-18C Hornet solo display and PC-7 Team.

A welcome addition to our static aircraft displays will be a Gazelle HT3, operated by Nova Systems, which retains it's military colour scheme and markings (ZB625) from it's previous service with QinetiQ.

We were pleased to hear from the Turkish Embassy that their military is planning to send aircraft to participate at RIAT 2022, we have begun discussions with the aircraft operators and hope to have more news soon.

This week we've also been in communication with the Czech Air Force, Hellenic Air Force, Spanish Air Force & Royal Navy who have all expressed an intent to participate at RIAT 2022.

Turkish Land Forces are flashing yellow - as they dont have any manned aircraft it looks like we could get some drones. Also I think due to the current situation some countires may not send any combat aircraft so we could end up with training aircraft dominating the show - fitting into the theme :D

Tidy! The Finnish Hawk is a nice addition, as is the Nova Systems Gazelle - I’ve been after that for a while.

Nice!

It’s been too long since I saw a Hawk solo. Class scheme as well.

The Swiss are always a class act.

Great start, some really nice variety.

Spanish F-18 please - superb display in 2017(?) but the weather curtailed 2/3 show days as I recall?

Great update again from DBH, Swiss Hornet is always a beauty, and I’m looking forward to seeing this Finnish Hawk.

With regards to the Czechs, essentially anything in their fleet would be great to see at Fairford, especially the Mi-24.

Spanish, I agree with the above, missed the Hornet in 2017 due to weather.

Greeks, that could be an interesting one. We’d all love the Phantom’s back, but could this year finally be the one that we get the Buckeye, especially considering the theme?

Turkey, once again Phantom’s, plus Solotürk and/or Turkish Stars.

I’ll add this to the wish list thread if it’s a problem on here.
