Kiev Aviation Museum in the snow
Kiev Aviation Museum in the snow
Went to Kiev for a few days with my mate after Christmas. Thank god I took lots of photos cause I don't have many other memories of the place. Have to say, this is a real blinder of a museum, definitely one I'll need to visit again in the sun, but seeing everything under snow lent a certain something to the atmosphere and certainly made for interesting and fun photography.

Re: Kiev Aviation Museum in the snow
Excellent photos Sam..... the snow really lends an unusual aspect to the collection.
It's the only place in the world where you can see THREE versions of the Backfire - Tu-22M0, Tu-22M2 and Tu-22M3
I've visited Zhulaniy a few times now - the last time in August last year - specifically to see the recently arrived An-71.....

Lovely stuff Sam. A fascinating place artfully shot
Re: Kiev Aviation Museum in the snow
Best part was my mate's utter bafflement when I completely lost my mind turning the corner and seeing two Yak-38s.

Re: Kiev Aviation Museum in the snow
Beautifully presented as always. That An-71 with the AWACS radome... oh my
They're all great but no. 5 really stands out for some reason, the Yak-28 is such a badass machine.

Posting comments on an aviation-related chatroom, are ya? Looks like it an' all...

Excellent. Let's be honest a lot of museum postings can be boring but these certainly aren't

Re: Kiev Aviation Museum in the snow
Nice sequence of images Sam, and you are right, the snow really adds to the occasion and general feel of the place. I was in Kiev for three days in early December 2018 and visited the war museum (along with many churches) in Kiev but didn't have time for the aviation museum. The rest of the time I spent in Chernobyl around Pripyat, the power station and abandoned villages - well worth visiting if you like derelict abandonment - I can recommend 'Chornobyl Tours,' who start and drop off outside the main railway station in Kiev.
If you're planning a trip to Kiev again for the aviation museum, or Chernobyl, and want some random UKAR company, drop me a message. I will definitely be going back.

Now officially qualifies as a 'regular' at Famous Dave's - El Centro
Re: Kiev Aviation Museum in the snow
Im visiting Kiev in June and staying near the rail station, I am very keen to go and visit. Is the museum easily accesible from the rail station? How much did it cost to get in? Thanks.

Re: Kiev Aviation Museum in the snow
I was on a river cruise - so we were berthed on the river (Kiev River Port).
I got a taxi from there to the Zhulaniy museum (it's on the territory of Zhulaniy Airport) - it took about 20 mins (with a mad driver!) - and cost me 150 Ukrainian Hryvnia each way.
That's £4.26 or 5.57 USD each way.
The taxi driver dropped me off - and I asked him (via our ships interpreter when they booked the taxi for me) to pick me up after 4 hours - which he did.
Ken
PS - I can't remember how much it cost to get in - but it was peanuts (or a few Hryvnia).
There are tickets for the open air museum - plus extras for the indoor engines display - plus extras to visit some of the cockpits (although the Tu-142 Bear was cordoned off - but I thought it would be a bit churlish to ask for a refund!)
It was so cheap that I purchased all the extras.
PPS - Here's their website :- http://aviamuseum.com.ua/en - if you click on 'Cost' (under the 'Worktime' link) you will see that a 'Full Ticket' is listed as 100 UAH
