Duxford Friday 13th March:
The ex-IWM CASA 2.111 fuselage is now loaded on the Trailer which will take it to Hawkinge this weekend. Details of the early Sunday move are at :

Otherwise, two Spitfires and a Hurricane were aloft today:
A couple of today's visitors. Who would believe a Virus would be welcome ?

Re: Duxford Diary 2020
It would be wrong not to look back in Duxfords history to remember that 45 years ago today on the 16th March 1975 our very own Sally B touched down at Duxford for the first time on her delivery flight from Creil in France . A credit to her supporters and her engineers that she remains airworthy with us . A few pictures of her arrival below from the collection of the late John Strangward

Re: Duxford Diary 2020
Viewed some old IWM film of the 1975 Duxford Airshow recently - '784 was among the participants.
Underneath my gruff exterior lies an even gruffer interior...

Coronavirus
There are currently no changes to Imperial War Museums’ operations as a result of coronavirus, and all IWM sites remain open as usual. We continue to monitor the situation closely and follow the advice of health authorities and Government bodies.

Re: Duxford Diary 2020
Following on from tomwards post above, maybe Duxman, DCW and Pen Pusher could post some images from their extensive archives to keep the Duxford fix active if the closure goes on for a long while.

Re: Duxford Diary 2020
A couple of further pictures from the BofB event on 14/9/57.
Spitfire XVI SL542 was based at Duxford with the Station Flight although I believe damaged early in the year in a landing accident. It subsequently went to become a gate guardian a various RAF bases until sale to the USA and then Canada . It survives today but I think it is still undergoing restoration possibly in Canada.

Duxfords previous Station Flight Spitfire also a Mk XVI was TE357 which had also succumbed to an accident. The fuselage was noted at the display dumped near the blast pens. Sadly it does not appear to have survived into preservation.

Interesting visitor was F.86D 24185 recorded as being based at Manston with the 406FBW.

Re: Duxford Diary 2020
Looking back again to 1975 saw the arrival on January 10th of Comet 1 XK695 from RAF Wyton on loan to the Museum. Sadly she only lasted 17 years before corrosion apparently took hold and she was dismantled. The fuselage it appears went to RAF Newton for use by their dogs training unit and the cockpit section eventually got donated to the de Havilland Museum at London Colney where it can still be viewed.

Re: Duxford Diary 2020
Great to see that Comet in the air!
In my teens, I used to man the DAS airliners on Saturdays. For a while, we opened the Comet 2R as well - which was cool!
It smelt magnificent inside, as you'd expect; but for me, the coolest part were the windows. The aircraft was on the production line for BOAC when the Comet 1s were grounded (it was issued a civil registration - G-AMXH??) and it appeared to have been built with the original square windows. From inside, you could see where the rectangular aperture was filled by a panel containing the new oval window. The history of the Comet, right there.

I see TE356 is still about. Shame '357 didn't make it.

Re: Duxford Diary 2020
My Duxford visits were rare in the 80's.
On 5-7-84 I drove down from Glasgow in my fancy 'new' Escort:
[
By my next trip, on 29-5-85, it was a new XR3i:
The Saunders Roe SR.A/1 TG263 was one of many ex Skyfame airframes resident at Duxford, leaving for Solent Sky around 1993.
B-25 N9089Z 'HD368' (G-BKXW ntu) was stored by Aces High (ex Southend Museum) and left for North Weald in 1987. Now believed to survive at Booker.

Great photos especially of the Saro.
As an aside the last tax disc on Ford Escort XR3 reg B521XNS expired on the 31st October 1990, so it’s either in storage somewhere or was scrapped!
