Wonderful "1940" line-up, very appropriate! just needs a Mk.1 Hurri adding to it...

You could be right as this was in an email from Ultimate Warbird Flights today: "A massive congratulations to Mike Ling for completing his first solo flight in The Grace Spitfire yesterday, We think the huge grim says it all!"

Duxford Friday 16th October:
My Duxford visits are rare at the moment, but I managed a couple of hours this afternoon.
IWM's new Spitfire replica is now positioned on the Hangar Base. It represents AA937 of the Duxford based AFDU, circa 1943. Not a bad representation, and it can stay outside all winter ! (But shouldn't it have clipped wings ?)
This visiting Super Cub is ex Royal Netherlands Air Force, but I will remember it from a passenger flight from Glasgow to Strathallan in 1984:

From a Members e-mail just received

We wanted to reach out to you to confirm that in line with government guidance, from Thursday 5 November we are closing our museum doors. This includes IWM London, IWM North, IWM Duxford and Churchill War Rooms.
If you have made a booking for an upcoming event, we will be in touch as soon as possible with more information. We have updated our Q&A for any questions you might have about our temporary closure. You can also contact us at membership@iwm.org.uk if we can be of any assistance.
Whilst our physical doors may be closed, we will continue to bring you stories from our collections through members eNews where we will share videos and articles that continue to tell stories of heroism, hardship, triumph and loss.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support. Please take care of yourselves and each other and we look forward to welcoming

If anybody is there tomorrow, I'll be either in H4 or the refurbished operations room - I'll be happy to point out a few new things so say hello.

The new Operations Room is very atmospheric.
Re: Duxford Diary 2020
The weather couldn't have been better for the latest "last day before lockdown."
It was a busy day in the air and good to see close to 300 visiting public.
I counted 4 two-seater Spitfire flights and one of the Hurricanes was out and about in the morning; good to see the P-40 on the line for an engine test too.
Visitors included a couple of GrobTutors - I guess they stopped in for a coffee and a comfort break - as well as a couple of Chipmunks which later flew some tight formations. An Apache did a low pass down the runway and the Dragon Rapide appeared at the end of the day.
The highlight for me was G-SEDC - a lovely Fairchild Argus which I hadn't seen before.
(apologies if I missed anything but I was meant to be inside H4!
Thoughts are with the hard working and dedicated staff who found out today that they are on furlough until the lockdown ends.

Re: Duxford Diary 2020
It was indeed a good day yesterday at Duxford. Sunny and clear, plenty of flying for visitors, staff and volunteers to enjoy. Couldn't have been much better before Lockdown. When the museum does reopen I recommend to those who can visit the revamped Battle of Britain exhibition in Hangar 4 and especially the new Ops Block display. Well worth seeing.

Duxford Friday 4th December:
The IWM month-long closure is finally over, sadly the wintry weather meant very little activity this morning.
Miss Pick Up is back after her Scottish adventure, but is waiting for a move back into Hangar 2 for repairs and winter maintenance:
The BBMF Lancaster arrived during lockdown, and can be seen in the Stephenson Hangar:
HAC's Spitfire V BM597 has been repainted in 303 (Polish) Sqn markings, but it could be a while before she emerges:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-c ... e-55165062Duxford's WW2 American Air Museum gets Grade II* listing
A building that is both a "museum and a memorial" to US airmen who fought and died in World War Two has been awarded a Grade II* listing.
The American Air Museum at Duxford in Cambridgeshire, contains the Imperial War Museums' collection of US military aircraft and was opened in 1998.
Usually buildings have to be at least 30 years old to be listed.
Museum executive director John Brown said it told "a hugely important story".
Architect Norman Foster, who designed the building, described the listing as "wonderful news".
The American Air Museum was purpose-built between 1995 and 1997 at Duxford, an RAF and United States Army Air Forces station during World War Two.
It tells the story of the emergence and dominance of US air power during the 20th Century, as well as paying tribute to the 30,000 US airmen flying out of British bases who died during the conflict.
Lord Foster said: "In that spirit, the building is both a museum and a memorial.
"The entrance is respectful, as if entering a tomb, which opens up to an airy, hangar-like space."
Historic England said its "high level of architectural and historic interest" made it a candidate for listing, despite not being 30 years old.
Chief executive Duncan Wilson described it as "an outstanding building, with a geometric construction that makes it the most complicated of all Foster's work".
