Duxford Thursday 6th August:

As mentioned earlier, Spitfire PR.XIX F-AZJS / PS890 returned to the air this afternoon a little more than three years after her accident in France on June 11th 2017.
Well done to ARC for bringing this monster back to life.
And the noise !!!!!

While waiting for the French Spitfire to fly, we were entertained by a pair of North Weald based Westland Scout helicopters who came in for a bit of circuit bashing and auto-rotational landing practice that involved sliding along the grass on their skids. XV126/50K was wearing a scheme worn by Scouts in Germany in 1980 on Exercise Crusader. Eurocopter EC155B1/(A7-HMD) from Stansted also joined them in the circuit. In the order taken

Duxford Tuesday 4th August:

Tuesday's Showcase Day was a successful event. The weather during the flying was very dull, but improved by late afternoon. Social distancing on the crowd line worked reasonably well, but a few bottlenecks in the hangars caused problems.
I was pleased to see P-51D G-SHWN flying in its new Don Blakeslee scheme. His callsign leading the 4th FG was 'Horseback', so that's a good a name as any.
Also flying were Cosmic Wind G-ARUL, Cassutt G-BPVO, Yak 50 F-AZXK, Extra 300 G-XXTR, Yale G-BYNF with Harvard G-BJST, and a de Havilland trio of Dragon Rapide G-AGJG, DHC-1 G-BCOU and DHC-2 G-DHCZ. Highlight for me was the finale, Hurricane R4118 and Spitfire I N3200.
15 visiting vintage and classic light aircraft were parked on the Eastern Apron, including most of the Biggin Hill based Shipping and Airlines fleet, very welcome indeed.
Also on static display were based Catalina, DH9, Fokker Dr.1, 'NHS' Spitfire PL983 and the Comanche Fighters Mustang pair (Berlin Express and Hun Hunter).
The Anglia Fury and Sea Fury WG655 were also flying (the Sea Fury sadly force landing locally)

Duxford Sunday 9th August:

A busy day at Duxford, but most of the warbird fleet were sheltering inside from the fierce heat. Harvard G-CIUW / FE511 was an interesting visitor:

Duxford Saturday 15th August:

At a private event this afternoon, HAC unveiled their Hurricane G-HURI in its new markings. It now represents R4175 'RF-R' of 303 (Polish) Sqn, as flown by Czech pilot Josef Frantisek from Northolt during the Battle Of Britain.
One addition to the wartime markings is the Czech roundel on the starboard fuselage. Frantisek had fought with Czech, Polish and French units before continuing the battle from England. He was the highest scoring RAF 'foreign' pilot during the Battle Of Britain but was killed at the age of 26, probably in a flying accident, on October 8th 1940.
The Hurricane should be flying on Wednesday's Showcase Day.

Not such good news for Flying Legends fans - 2019 was the last one ever to be held at Duxford.

https://britishairshows.com/duxford-fly ... ds-airshow

I'm thankful for all the memories from the good old days and hope that maybe an even better venue may be found in the future.

It does, however, rob me of my favourite day of the year, which was the Friday before when you could basically get in on a standard ticket and enjoy all the practice displays and watch all the visiting display aircraft turn up for the event. You can keep Christmas if I could have that :-(

So they didn’t want a full-scale replica Horsa as it wasn’t the real thing, but are quite happy to display a Currie Wot pretending to be an SE5a. What a bizarre collecting policy.

Cynical me assumes it's down to one would be paying for hangarage, and one wouldn't...
