Daks over Normandy - 75th Anniversary of D-Day

Post by Draken »

It's been over a year, but I finally managed to work on some pics.

My trip to Normady for 75th anniversary of the D-Day was amazing. Never expected it to be so intense and very emotional. I visited several places related to the great operation including Sword Beach and Utah Beah, Museum of D-Day, few small towns and villages in Normandy, where you can see and feel the spirit of June '44. France remembers... and I'll also remember these days...

Visiting Caen and seeing over 20 DC-3s was truly fabulous. Even the weather did not stop us ;) (however nightshoot event was cancelled :( )

Some photos, hope you'll like them:

I'll keep those few days deep in my memory, it was very emotional. One moment touched me very hard: We were standing on the hill by Royal Engineers Memoral, suddenly just out of nowhere two Mustangs made a very low pass over the beach and they did a break just over us - one went south, other north. That was the moment, the place... I shed a tear...

Truly amazing to see all these small cities and villages, the monuments, crosses, memorabilia...

To sum up:
5 days
2 flights - Krakow-Brussels, Eindhoven-Krakow;
1800km by car;
10 aiports (Krakow, Brussels Charleroi, Brussels Zaventem,Paris CDG, Paris LeBourget, Caen Carpiquet, Lessay-LFOM, Cherbourg-LFRC, Paris Orly, Eindhoven);
Over 1300 pictures;
Stunning views;
Unforgettable memories...

Nice to see your photos Draken, it's likely we crossed paths at some stage as your pictures look a lot like mine.

Somehow missed this post previously. Great coverage & photography of the various events & locations. I was there for the 75th Anniversary period & only saw a fraction of what you have shown us. The Caen Carpiquet DC3 event was a complete shambles, even if the sun had been out.
