Maybe it was the initial tease of there seeming to be an announcement that the USA F35 was going to display, that it now feels a disappointment if it doesnt ?
Was it ever actually anything more than a schedule gap though? Pretty sure the good ship DBH never said anything.
Starting to think its to do with fuel costs. The US are possibly limiting the amount of shows they are willing to travel to outside the States.

the americans produce their own fuel, don't they? i imagine the airforce gets it at wholesale price

As for the comment it looks like a pig with lipstick. If only it did, at least it would have some character, as it is, its a bland as a beige chipboard coaster. Its nothingness has no boundaries. And everyone's look the same.
Obviously not seen the 65th AGRS yet or the F35C trial camo.

Evening Folks,

Just checking in after a long week, to cover a few queries.

Firstly, to try and manage expectations and avoid more wishlisting: As of today, we are not expecting any USAF Air Combat Command demonstration teams to perform in the RIAT 2022 flying display.

NATO confirmed their attendance a long time ago. They want to send a E-3A for static but its still TBC
There will not be a NATO Sentry on the ground at RIAT 2022.

Please arrive on Friday 🤞
That's the plan for the Swedes...

When Riat says they are now extending the flying display to fit everything in, I'm not so sure, is there really enough flying for more than 7 hours?
Well, my Flying Display team are sure, that based on the timings we have, it's adding up to more than eight hours at the moment.

Other than that, I'd be surprised if we don't get a Voyager on static.
The RAF Voyager fleet is probably the busiest it's even been at the moment, so at this stage it looks like you may be surprised Caper!

Cheers,
Peter

RAF have Surged 2 Reserved Voyagers into service due to the Tempo ops at the moment for the first time so unlikely as you say.

Indeed, thanks for the feedback Peter. Still looking as though we have a great show to look forward to.

Out of interest, have all the flying items been announced or is there more in the pipeline?

Thanks for clearing things up 👍
Anything that confirms from now on should be treated as an extra. Shame about the E-3A and voyager but it's understandable that currently they have more important things to do.

RIAT is listed as an airshow celebrating the 75th anniversary of the USAF on their website 'featuring AF75 aircraft'.

https://www.af.mil/About-Us/AF-75th-Anniversary/

Interestingly, neither Edwards or Nellis are on the list at this stage.

Have to say does seem ironic that we have a major airshow theme, on a US base but no actual demo teams could be sent, think this seems to be a major change of policy by the powers that be or have we just been fortunate in years previous?
In every other anniversary year (and in-between as-well)RIAT has always been allocated at least 1 demo team and/or The Thunderbirds, think you have to go quite a few years to when the show last was void of any demo teams (with exception of the sequestration year).
But it is what it is, and hopefully still a chance of possibly a B52/B1 for the static?
The show is still shaping up to be a great one and hat’s off to all👍

Not too bothered about any of the US demos appearing just hope for a B17, B52, B1, line up (of course with a B2 overhead!)

If we're counting the F-35A Heritage flight thing in 2018, then I think 2015 & 2014 would be the last non-US demo years...

I'm not too fussed either about not getting one this year, not sure the show suffers for it particularly. 1 more FJ demo would be nice, but outside of the Turkish AF not sure where that could come from....Danish 'Dannebrog' F-16 would be nice but they're already sending Baby Blue.

2012, 2013 (sequestration), 2014, and 2015 all spring to mind as years we didn’t have official ACC demo teams present (unless I’ve forgotten something, which is of course possible). It’s more common than you think.

Verreli, that link you sent is very interesting! Maybe we’re due more static participation from the US? Or even luckier a flypast of some kind like in 2017 (aircraft from Spang/The Hall & Heath).

Solid info from the US has been thin on the ground this year. I'm heading to Edwards later this year, one of the biggest US shows, two anniversaries and there's virtually nothing in the public domain. Nice to see that they are publicly acknowledging RIAT as a show where their 75th anniversary is being recognised but that could mean a solid static line up which is what we have. It could also mean something else. It's anyones guess. I'm still optimistic for something else come 14-16 July, albeit not one of the ACC demo teams. One month today and we'll be speculating what's coming in 2023.

With regards to the 35, as someone mentioned on FC and i’ve seen it myself. On Instagram a few weeks back someone responded to a post of the demo team asking if they’d be at RIAT and they responded saying ‘We’ll be right there with ya’. Why would they say that if DBH haven’t got confirmation from them at all? As much as it’s not the end of the world, is a strange one!

They were never going to be flying though. Nor are they likely to at a mainland U.K. show whilst CAA regs are what they are, despite immense work behind the scenes to eventually make it happen. So unless you can fork out to go to a European show, then that’s as good as it’s possible to get from them.

They have to fly in and out, remember.

Hello Peter, thanks for the update. Are you at liberty to explain why the USAF initially self-confirmed A-10/F-35 displays and then seemingly backtracked? It's clearly gotten a lot of people confused, even though RIAT never announced it themselves.

That's their choice though, not specifically a blanket CAA ban as you seem to imply. Swept wing jets are allowed to fly non-aerobatic routines over land, such as the MiG-15 at Duxford this weekend.

There is nothing to stop the Swedes modifying their display to conform to this, and doing a series of flypasts/formations that comply with the CAA regs on displays by swept-wing jets. They chose not to, so are only prepared to appear on static. Their choice.

This happens every season with the ACC Demo Schedules. Its only picked up on this time because it seems RIAT is missing out but shows have been taken off in the past and RIAT added in their place so unfortunately its swings and roundabouts.
