Duxford In A Different Light: Fighter Night ~ 4th September 2021

Post by Pen Pusher »

Duxford held their first night shoot with 9 warbirds, a Willys JEEP, courtesy of Clive Denny, and a small group of living history persons. Apart from Spitfire Mk.VIII/MV154, which was between hangars 4 & 5 and Spitfire Mk LFXVIe/RW382/(G-PBIX) briefly outside the western end of hangar 3, the rest of the warbirds were scattered around the grassed areas between hangars 2 & 3. The culmination of the evening were engine runs by Spitfire Mk.XIV/MV293, confirming why a Spitfire is called a Spitfire, and the P-40F Warhawk, which didn’t spitfire. Many thanks to Liam and the IWM Duxford volunteers, who stayed up way beyond their bedtimes, and the owners and engineers who provided the aeroplanes. In the order taken, all hand held.

Great shots Brian, I can't believe they are handheld.

Would anyone happen to know what type of lights they were using as I'm looking for a set for a non aviation related nightshoot?

They looked to be portable LED floodlights - I can ask for specific brand if you want...

Great pictures as we have come to expect from Brian but I think the crew behind the lighting could do with some lessons in getting it right before their next time.

Apron lighting ala Northolt would be lovely - personally I think some old school sodium floodlights would add a nice hue...

Thanks BobL, that would be great if you could find out. I've seen similar lights on line and in places like B&Q but I've no idea what they look like in operation.
