Happy to see 48FW attending with 3 aircraft this year, rather than the singleton in 2019! :grinning:
Was half-expecting the Irish PC-9 team with it being the Irish Air Corps centenary this year, so that will be nice to see. It's becoming a real Pilatus-fest.
The Hunter looks nice and I liked the Super Tucano in 2019, & I guess it wouldn't be RIAT without the Polish Bryza in the static park :grinning:

I guess any potential Thai participation would realistically be an A330-MRTT, on delivery maybe....

Shame about the Polish Air Force, but given the situation this year not surprising.

Have to say disappointed with the Polish attendance considering what they are sending to Danish show but hey/ho.

Nice to see the first USAF participation confirmed and Silver Swallows is great addition, remember seeing them way back in 1997.

Now i will get shot down for this (very apt on an aviation forum i guess), but i'm feeling a tad Me-eh!

Lots of props turning and dissapearing in the expance of a Fairford Sky, and i think the show is a little lightweight, compared to previous years.

Now, before anyone says it, yes i am aware that grey is the new camouflage, and that F-35's are the new 'norm', and if you like Helo's then there's a treat or 3 in the mix for you......... but...... is there a real standout display item apart from (TBC) , the black Eagles?

Hoping for greek and turkish phantoms, and spanish F-5's, and Whitmund A4's, but more than likely it will be stuff that's gonna be around for longer than i have left on this planet.

So it's (so far), a M-eh, from me, sorry.

Obviously the potential appearance of The Black Eagles is the definite star item, but having seen the Austrian Typhoon pair + Herc @ Zeltweg I'd say they're well worth looking forward to. The Czech helicopters & the Hungarian Mi-24 are up there for me also. Plus we have the fairly rarely seen Spanish Hornet (which was brilliant in 2017 on the Sunday) & favourites like the Belgian F-16, Swiss F-18 & Swedish Gripen. Hopefully the Czech jets will make it (fingers firmly crossed) & we still have I'd imagine the Italian RSV to add a few displays & maybe Turkey with SoloTurk or (I hope) the Turkish Stars. Looking at the 'In discussion' list, not sure if there's any highlights for the flying there....but definitely some good statics if most turn green!

Its fair comment, the only thing I'd ask is what exactly is a stand out item for an old timer like yourself or me? Keeping it realistic and looking at an item for the flying display.

Croatian MiG21 perhaps before they're gone. A Pakistani JF-17 display. USAF A-10 display in its SEA scheme.

As good as Rafales, Mirage 2000s, MiG29s are, we've seen all the likely ones to turn up. We're not going to be blessed by the much desired Ukrainian Su24s due to outside interference. I love B-1s and B-52s to bits but they were annual in days of yore. And I can gauge from the post you are as enamored as I am with the prospect of F-35s.

Some more guts in the static - fast jets and heavies alike - would be most welcome as would one or more fast jet displays, but I should imagine its a struggle with what's going on and with the French Air Force not coming to play.
However with the jubilee theme I thought the RAF may have committed a bit more to static by now, VIP Voyager, C-17, Atlas, Herc, some Tiffie squadrons etc, camo Puma if its still around.

Quite a few Display teams now or Demos which take a lot more slot time.

At this rate i think they might have a problem with fitting everything in tbh.

The Irish Air Corps Silver Swallows is a very nice catch. Their first UK display since 2012 (Under the name Team Silver) and their first outside of the Island of Ireland since 1997.

I wonder if they will use the coloured smoke.

While it is still possible,

I'd love a Croatian Mig 21 or pair, a pair of F-4's from Greece and Turkey......or even Korea? or perhaps ask the Golden Eagles to bring along a normally painted 'air spare' for the static?

Any one of these could be called a star of the show, fast jet wise, i think.

I used the approximate display times from what is available on youtube and got about 5 hours with only confirmed aircraft ( + TBC Czech gripen, Czech Alca x2 demo, A-10C, F-35A, Black eagles). If we include the TBC aircraft we get about 6 hours and 8 minutes and thats not including the flypast(s) that are/were planned with the reds.
Looking at the 'ongoing' list I would assume only Italy and the French Navy might send something for the flying display.

Is that actual Display times? Does it included departing /Arriving and positioning ? That must take a good 10-15mins per hour just to get the stuff in and out?

Thanks

The Frecce Tricolori will use up 30-45mins I'd say, RAF Chinook also self-confirmed...not sure those 2 USAF demos will be coming anymore tbh....from the ongoing list there's also Turkish Air Force with potential flying displays.

Could also factor in the Airbus Military A400M demo that has featured every year for a while now...

Croatians have previously stated they have neither the financial or operational capability for their Migs to go abroad.

Indian Flanker/Tejas demo (if reported to be true of exercise) would be a stand item for sure.

Last year the Pakistani Air Force seemed as if they were planning to send Mirage V's for the static park (from the Virtual Air Tattoo). Now that'd be unbelievable!

Solid update this week, but to be fair not spellbinding, but then they can’t always be, tbh. The Irish PC-9s will be really lovely to see though.

Blimey I only mentioned the LN F-15 birds a few days ago! Again, shame one is not in the air but then again a trip up the 'Heath' and I can get my fix!

Now I'm starting to agree with folk that there's a lot of trainer/props being announced and most would be lost at Fairford. However, the other year I actually watched the Jordanian Falcons and was super impressed with what they did considering the weather if I remember right. The same goes for the Slovenian PC-9 solo. As long as they fly better performances than the Greek Texan II we'll all stay awake. I'm sorry but that bored the life out of me.
Maybe they might get all the display teams up at once and do a mass balbo flypast of trainers like Duxford. Wouldn't that be something!

Still a lot to play for and potentially some good additions.
I think come July we'll all be stating that it's the best show for years!

Have to agree, while it was good to see the Texan II, it didn't really excite me. The Tucano display was a lot better.

These updates are a bit like opening a present when you are a kid -
Wondering what addition to the flying display there will – because must be getting to the fun stuff by now.

And here we are opening the wrapping – this is going to be exciting.... No, face drops – surely not it’s another turboprop trainer display.

I’m sure who sent it meant well but .....

I wonder if this might well be the most padding ever seen at a RIAT ?

But I do offer a solution: Donate some or perhaps all of the following to Cosford

DENMARK - ROYAL DANISH AIR FORCE
SAAB T-17 Supporter (x6) - Baby Blue Display Team / Flyveskolen

FINLAND - FINNISH AIR FORCE
British Aerospace Hawk Mk.51 Solo

FRANCE - FRENCH AIR AND SPACE FORCE
Pilatus PC-21 (x2) Mustang X-Ray Tactical Display

HASHEMITE KINGDOM OF JORDAN - ROYAL JORDANIAN AIR FORCE
Extra 330LX (x4) Royal Jordanian Falcons

IRELAND - IRISH AIR CORPS
Pilatus PC-9M (x4) Silver Swallows Display Team

SLOVENIA - SLOVENIAN AIR FORCE
Pilatus PC-9M Solo

SWITZERLAND - SWISS AIR FORCE
Pilatus PC-7 (x9) Swiss Air Force PC-7 Team

Might improve both shows!

Actually can we swap them with Cosford’s Rafale :)

I jest but please pretty please no more trainers in the flying display!

Its almost like they have training aircraft as the main theme :O

If only they told us this way back in November of last year ;)
Our operational theme focuses on Training the Next Generation Air Force. We will shine the spotlight on all types of training aircraft, from elementary trainers which give young pilots their first taste of flight, all the way through to twin-stick operational conversion variants of modern combat jets. This will include showcasing iconic training aircraft in their final years of service, whilst also demonstrating new aircraft and systems which have revolutionised flying training.
There will be more trainers to come as both the Frecce Tricolori (tbc) and Black Eagles (tbc) fly trainers though.

Yes Yes Yawn Yawn.

But, apart from I want to see a PC-9 in XYZ colours nerds, most people agree that they are padding.

And as discussed above they are lost in the skies at Fairford.

It is a poor choice of a theme - nobody forces IAT to pick it!- I started going in 77 so I remember many good themes
