RIAT 2022 Award winners

Post by bobby 1211 »

I've seen the Belgian F16 dream viper has won best livery and the Chinnok has won best UK flying participant. Does anyone know the other winners? I hope the Austrian QRA Demo win something.

Dont think the Belgium F16 deserved it, its a beatiful aircraft but because it didn't even move until today and didn't fly it's display I think another aircraft such as the RJAF C130H deserved it more.

The RJAF C-130 also won an award, the Concours d'Elegance for Best Participating Aircraft

No surprise there. Did the Spartan win anything.

Glad the Irish PC12 won, it looked great 👍🏼

Any news on the 'Crow Flies' award from FRIAT?
Now officially qualifies as a 'regular' at Famous Dave's - El Centro

It's almost a shame that the As The Crow Flies trophy was won by the Black Eagles as there really were so many displays that I thought deserved recognition. (Saying that, I did vote for them!!)

I thought that the Austrian QRA demo deserved something - honourable mentions to Spanish Hornet, both Gripens, Finnish Hawk, Belgian F-16, Czech W-3, and probably more that I've forgotten. It's a good job I'm not giving the awards out isn't it?

The heritage F-15E got my vote for the best paint scheme.

Good to know, thanks Dean.

My three top picks for awards this time would need to include The Black Eagles, The Belgian F-16 and the Austrian QRA.

I actually voted for the Slovenian PC-9 - it remains one of the best fixed-wing solo displays in Europe.

That landing off a stall turn was certainly impressive. Which goes to prove that it is always worth paying attention to the items that are often derided on here as "filler" or "toilet break" acts.

I mean seriously, am I the only one who thought it deserved an award?

I must be the only one who thinks the C-27 wasn’t as good as previous years and found it quite high? Landing was sensational though!

I was also looking forward to the Belgian F-16 but I thought that was quite distant at times too.

Best livery was a bit of a non-event this year.
Three Belgian F-16s
Italian AMX and MB-339
Jordanian Herc
USAF F-15E
Spanish Hornet
RAF Typhoon (lovely)
Dutch F-16
German EF-2000 (barrel scraping)

Personally I would have picked the AMX, not a big fan of the Dream Viper - its too dark side on and the X-Tiger is just hideous.

I'd have gone with the AMX or the X-Tiger I think.

I abstained in the best paint job. I couldn't see a clear worthy winner among the specials. Actually thought of going for the Bahrain C-130, even though not a 'special', cos I think it looked super smart.

So how come we still don't have an official list of winners then? what on earth's going on?

Looks like the Hungarian Gripen won the Paul Bowen Trophy judging by the comment in the video below:

I wouldn’t disagree with any of the above TBH. All worthy winners (although I do prefer the Belgian X Tiger F-16 to the Dream Viper scheme myself)

Just realised I missed out what should have actually won - lovely little Danish T-17 retro scheme. Hands down the nicest looking special on show.

I think a lot of people forgot about the T-17, and you're quite right caper it was the best special at the show without a doubt!
