I spotted that yesterday, as I had ADS-B open at the same time, and you could see which aircraft aborted the landing way before it happened on the livestream, and I very roughly measured it at a 30 sec delay on the livestream....which made me laugh, when there was talking of betting odds as to whether each aircraft would abort or not!Tommy wrote: ↑Sat 19 Feb 2022, 9:50 amThe 20 second delay does vindicate him though - I certainly didn’t know that, but it puts me slightly at ease if, god forbid, anything did happen, it reduces the risk of loved ones seeing family members’ hurt or injury plastered all over social media before they were notified through the proper channels.

If the delay is 20-30 seconds then he's not forcing s delay at all. That's a normal amount of latency for a live stream over 4/5G.
Re: Big jet TV YouTube channel
Likewise, I just happened to be not working yesterday, and as a part time worker at LHR, had a passing interest in what was going on in the conditions.
While maybe not aimed at those with more knowledge, if his relaxed view attracts any younger newer people to a hobby, then all well and good really.
With almost 200k watching at one point, if even 500 of those continue to take an interest, then its no bad thing.

From the Daily Telegraph Pole:
“Planespotters sometimes get a ribbing but one man's enthusiastic efforts documenting the battles of pilots to land at Heathrow in Storm Eunice on Friday has earned him a worldwide fan club.
“With a breathless, but knowledgeable commentary Big Jet TV - which normally specialises in what most people would regard as the fairly dull comings and goings from one of Europe’s busiest airports - is providing a ringside seat to a day of high drama.”
DT describes BJTV’s commentary as “knowledgable”. Even BJTV wouldn’t go that far. But bear it in mind the next time you read something in the MSM where someone is described as an ‘expert’.

I may be wrong but I watched both BBC & ITV Teatime News last night but only saw Jerry being interviewed on BBC, was the ITV interview shown at all, mind you I didn’t see the 10pm ITV News, was it on that?
Re: Big jet TV YouTube channel
He has no knowledge and is a complete "dwad".Should be banned from all airports.

Re: Big jet TV YouTube channel
OUCH , that's a bit strong!
I have to confess I don't (or didn't know) what a DWAD is but after a google I can't understand what 'Dress with a Difference' or 'Donations with a Difference' have to do with BJTV unless you're referring to his subscriptions.
As for his knowledge, he is probably lacking in in depth knowledge of aviation but he clearly has some otherwise he probably wouldn't have got as far as he has. And as for banning him from all airports - why? Just because he clearly isn't your cup of tea doesn't make him ban-able material. Some of his behaviour and language (eg re the death of HRH DoE) is a bit questionable and has rightly been highlighted on various social media and other sites and I certainly don't condone either.
As for his general output, I saw a bit of it yesterday on the BBC and then watched his feed for about 15 minutes and have to concede that his filming has improved since I last saw one of his 'programmes' and is better than some offerings out there. What I can't stand is his commentary, there are snippets of useful information but generally it does my head in, he's like a WWF (that's world wresting federation not world wildlife fund) on speed and as Tommy said previously 'I find it jarring and a bit cringe at times' is a pretty good assessment of it. I far prefer it not to be there.
There are lots of these aviation video people trying to do this now and it probably applies to other recreations as well and many are trying hard to hype up their material with OTT commentary for obvious reasons - it does draw in a certain element. Joe Public probably isn't interested in the precise details of how a computer keeps a 737 Max airborne (we hope, I'm still unsure about flying on one) but a bit of information presented in a good manner is useful and informative and might keep him watching a bit longer.
Even on a windy day when you could run an interesting sweepstake on which aircraft would decide to go round and have another try I struggle to understand how anyone could watch it for 8 hours even with a decent commentary - 8 minutes is more like my limit before I've had enough. The go rounds and wobbly landings certainly attracted far more viewers than usual (encouraged by the media no doubt) and at 200K views he obviously got something right but why anyone would subscribe to such a feed and watch it day after day I just don't get. However if 1% of those 200K viewers are drawn into a regular interest in aviation then that can't be a bad thing. I remember driving past Myrtle Avenue a few weeks before the first lockdown on a midweek morning and saw just 2 (TWO!!) enthusiasts and thought to myself 'is this hobby dying on it's feet?)'. It probably needs a bit of public awareness every now and again (such as the Vulcan gave it in 2009 when people went hundreds of miles to see a 7 minute display) so maybe some good will come out of his efforts.
I will say his work isn't for me and there are aspects of it I don't like at all but he obviously has an aviation minded audience of some kind so that has some sort of a benefit for the hobby - supposing it gets more people visiting their local airport for an afternoon with the kids and the airport owners actually start to think about providing some sort of viewing area, that wouldn't be bad would it?
I'm not beating a drum for him but just pointing out that whereas on the whole (I think that's a fair description) serious enthusiasts don't like his work, and I put myself in that camp, there is an element who do and for some it might just provide an introduction to our hobby - at which point they will probably realise his commentaries aren't much good and stop watching him (and others, he's not alone), but at least he got some engaged with aviation. for that reason alone he shouldn't be 'banned from all airports' as the previous writer suggested.

Exactly this, Day of banter messing with the mates at the fence, lots of nonsense get said too.stonojnr wrote: ↑Fri 18 Feb 2022, 8:46 pmhe did an 8hr live stream seemingly without a single comfort break, Id like to see some of the people criticising him, give that kind of thing a go and still sound as enthusiastic for what you are doing at the end of a day as you were at the beginning, when youve been standing out in a gale and getting rained on, tired, hungry, and you still hold off a tv crew wanting to interview you because you want to catch a 747 land.
I thought it was great, it was that classic youtube live stream style thats informal and abit like hanging out with your best mates watching stuff you all love together, just having a good time, more power to him.
aviation spotting doesnt have to be like some kind of Raymond Baxter Farnborough air show style broadcast, it can be just stuff like this.

Gerry is like a mate who people can relate to, that's why his draw is so big. He is not aloof and he does not claim to know everything about aviation, unlike some here it seems!
Yes he is a bit OTT at times but always gives 100% when streaming long days.
Of course the windy day streams are popular, it's human nature to see something involving more risk or peril isn't it.
He is entertaining presenter first, aircraft videographer second. That's the appeal, and he brings something noone else does to the genre. He found a niche in the market and filled it. And yes I do think he brings the hobby to new people who may not have thought about aviation before.
He knows quite a bit about civil stuff I would say. But he makes people feel at home if they have lots of knowledge or none. Good luck to the guy!

I noticed on the Heathrow photographers FB page this morning that a couple of others are trying to promote their Heathrow (Myrtle Ave) streams from Friday. I wonder if Jerry's exposure over the last 48 hours will lead to a sudden increase in people trying to do the same - if so we might find his work not as cringy as we thought.
you never know, in 10 years time there might be a category for aviation videos in the BAFTA awards

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... -NASA.htmlBig Jet TV planespotter Jerry Dyer is in talks with NASA over filming a rocket launch in Florida after captivating the nation with his stomach-churning footage during Storm Eunice at Heathrow Airport.
The 58-year-old also claims that airlines and airports are also interested in having him come and film footage for them, he told the Times.
Jerry, the son of an airline captain from Sussex, has loved all things aviation since he was a child but became an interior designer before pursuing his passion in 2016.
He also worked at the London Stock Exchange and running mountain bike and motocross magazines.
His father would take him on the flight deck of freight planes in the 1950s. 'I sat in the jump seat, watching him, and loved it,' he said.

I hope then I misheard what he said in that live transmission.
And is he really age 65+, as that's how old he'd have to be for his father to have taken him on the flight decks of cargo planes in the 1950's...?
Re: Big jet TV YouTube channel
NASA asking him cover their launches?
Really?
They'd need subtitles for a start....
Just needs to add former explorer, fighter pilot and spy to his portfolio...

Presume a typo (it’s the Mail, ofc). I’m unsure how a 58 year old could have been alive in the 50s, let alone one who remembers sitting on flight decks.Pen Pusher wrote: ↑Sun 20 Feb 2022, 11:08 am
