I think the trainer theme will save RIAT this year. I am guessing that many countries would rather send a trainer than a fighter/AWACS/Tanker etc in these times.
Thursday will most likely be the confirmation of Belgian F-16 and maybe some more static aircraft. I wonder what's up with the A-10 and F-35 demo - will they even attend?

I really don't get some people. Not had the show for 3 years and they are still complaining. All I say is if you don't like what you see don't attend . I for one will be going whatever turns up and appreciate what the team are doing .
Well I loved it through the 70/80/90s
But have only been once in the last 22 years. I thought this year might be a little speical - but we shall see? I will vote with my feet!
All to play for!

It is not the 70s/80s/90s, perhaps it's time to wake up and realise times have changed.

I was trying to think when we actually last had a Hawk display (beyond the Reds, obviously) - I recall the Hawk T2 pair in 2015 (that I actually really enjoyed), I guess the Midnight Hawks in 2017… and then beyond that… was it really as long ago as 2012?
The T2 Demo was a great display, its a pity it only lasted one year. Last time I saw the solo Hawk was 2012 in the Jubilee livery. When was the last time the Saudi Hawks came to RIAT?

Would be great if something was painted up again for this year.
+1 for the T2 display. I also used to enjoy the Hawk / Cobham Falcon20 demos from a while ago.

Personallly I am very happy to see lots of trainers. However I just want to see aircraft, on the ground or in the air, matters not. Would love to see French PC21 and Alphajet, plus regular squadron Spanish C101 and Italian MB339, Spanish EC120, Czech L139 plus some twin stick F-16's ,Gripens and Eurofighters. A Polish SH-2 is still top of my list, probably never see one sadly.

I think this is a very good point. I had already prepared myself for a smaller than usual show this year with fewer fighters and heavies.

I'm very happy to be getting the Finnish Hawk. Not a common display at all these days, and a cracking paint scheme.

Expecting less of 'fighters and heavies' is brave - I know people, not enthusiasts, only want to see those type of aircraft and the vast majority of people won't understand the nuisances of issues faced over the last few years and how that could impact the show.

I think we might be OK, depending how the next few months go. However, I think there's a desire from many countries to gain the benefits of the event, so I wouldn't expect to see any less of one or the other - within reason.

It's off to a decent start.

According to the BBMF members newsletter a Spitfire/Typhoon display is being worked up to appear at "some air shows"

That was mentioned a few months ago, sounds good. I never got to see the Spitfire/Typhoon display in 2015. RIAT and Cosford would almost certain I would guess.

Don't get me wrong, I don't WANT that to happen, but with all this going on I was steeling myself up for it.

I suppose it's always worth remembering that any aircraft at RIAT are liable to depart and head back for their duties at any point.

And in the case of the Typhoon a few years back at Cosford not even then. Aircraft was within sight from the airfield when the cockpit ventilation failed and he had to abandon.

It still appeared though.

The website hasn't been updated that I can see. 727 is a really cool aircraft, i'm hoping it might be flying.

The coastguard stuff could be really decent. It’s one of those things you don’t think about, but they’re pretty cool (and rare) machines in and of themselves.

Nice! Like the Nh-90 and always really enjoyed the HFWS Bo-105 routine.

MCA stuff looked really cool all lined up the other year, and really friendly crews too.

Nice.

"Last week, members of the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team visited Douglas Bader House to discuss their plans for RIAT 22, and we discussed our ambition for special mixed formation flypasts on all three show days. However, we await the formal ratification from the RAF Air Events Team before we add them to the aircraft participation list."
