The AH-1 Cobra appeared for the first time at an Air Tattoo in 1973 - any AH-1 on display (perhaps flying in inside a Hercules) would be quite something
Sounds dangerous, the rotor blades would surely hit the inside of the fuselage?
Sounds like an action sequence for a Mission Impossible film - we've seen a helicopter flying through the Channel Tunnel (railway overhead lines didn't seem to get in the way there, or were cunningly ignored).
Now officially qualifies as a 'regular' at Famous Dave's - El Centro

With or without this 'Theatre of the air' opportunity that has come about, a Cobra would be great to see. Perhaps Mr Cruise might make a return in the flying display :sunglasses: !

Definitely room for a Cobra!! (even if it's just a beer afterwards)

I also appreciate some of these don’t have a demo or at least haven’t been seen/heard from for some years, or some just haven’t got a snowball’s chance in hell, but it’s only a wish list! I *think* it’s at the very very top end of reasonable (ie most of it hasn’t retired, and the items have been known to demo, even if just in their home countries).

In addition to the usual suspects (Belgian F-16, RJFs, RAF lot)

Flying:
- Danish AF C-130J, F-16
- French AF Mirage 2000 (any, but preference for the single seaters)
- French Navy ATL2
- USAF A-10
- USAF B-1B
- USAF C-17
- USAF F-22
- Italian Navy AV-8B
- Italian AF Tornado
- Polish AF Su-22
- Turkish Stars
- Croatian Wings of Storm
- Antonov Airlines’ An-124 flypasts
- RNZAF 757
- Brazilian AF/Embraer KC390
- Norwegian F-104 (even if just flypasts only)
- Austrian Bell 212/Blackhawk
- Dutch AH-64
- Indian AF Tejas, Jaguars, Su-30 (take your pick)
- Pakistani JF-17
- Romanian MiG-21
- Serbian J-22
- Slovak Mi-17

Static
- Czech AF Venom/Viper pair
- German Army Tiger, CH-53
- Ukrainian Il-76 or An-26/30
- USAF - C-5, KC-10, C-130(E/H and J), some CONUS stuff - HH-60 or something
- US Army Blackhawk, Apache, Chinook
- Danish Home Guard Defender
- Italian Army AW129, Do228, CH-47
- Italian Navy P.180, AV-8B
- Italian AF NH900, SF260
- Italian home stuff - Guardia Di Finanza ATR72, Forestale CH-54 etc
- Spanish Army Tigre, CH-47
- Spanish AF SF-5Ms, CL-215 (or 415), A330 MRTT
- Spanish Navy P-3C
- Singaporean A330 MRTT
- JASDF C-130
- Korean AF C-130
- Portuguese P-3C, C295 MPA
- Pakistani Il-96
- South African C-47TP
- Flying Bulls’ DC-6
- Indian C-17
- Latvian Mi-8
- Lithuanian Mi-171
- Polish Navy SH-3 and Mi-14
- Polish Army Mi-24
- Australian P-8
- French AF Caracal, C-130, C-160 (are the Gabriels still in service)
- Jordanian Mi-26
- Algerian Su-24s
- Montenegrin AB412
- Norwegian AB412, Sea King
- Belgian, Dutch, Danish, Norwegian, Italian F-35s.
- Leonardo - Polish or Norwegian Merlin
- Egyptian An-72

Aaaaand so on and so forth - I could go on. As we say every year, there’s so much good stuff just on the European continent, let alone the rest of the world. The above basically looks like someone flirting randomly through a catalogue of the world’s air forces.

Just tidied that up a little there as your fantasy static list included some gremlins that somehow got in (now removed). I don't think the Polish Navy has Sea Kings either, and if it was meant to be Seasprites, I'm sure I'd read they were due to go very soon.

Gabriel Transalls are reputedly due to carry on until around 2025 when a replacement will come on line. Had originally planned to be binned with rest earlier this year until Vlad stoked the fires.

As much as I'd like the Romanian MiG-21 to have one last RIAT hurrah, they do appear to be due to retire by 15th May 2023 (https://www.flightglobal.com/defence/ro ... 53.article) - perhaps we could have an Azerbaijani, Indian or Egyptian example instead - with Il-76 support in the static park. Or perhaps a Bangladeshi, Egyptian, Pakistani or Sri Lankan Chengdu J-7 instead.

Looking back through 2021's Virtual Air Tattoo, it would be great to see the Chilean Los Halcones back at RIAT (with the support C-130 in the static display) after their last appearance in 2008 (the same could be said for the Brazilian Esquadrilha da Fumaca, Turkish Stars and Indian Sarang team - were they all put off by the weather? - they don't seem to have returned to Fairford since). Other aircraft that featured in the Virtual Air Tattoo of 2021 that I'd love to see in person next year must be the RNZAF P-3C and the Pakistani JF-17 and Mirage III/V, as well as the Krila Oluje (and their Mi-17 support).
It'd be great to welcome along nation 58 next year - Singapore or Sri Lanka perhaps? - both have featured in the Virtual event before. With Singapore M346 in France, one of those appearing would be nice to see.

Norwegian F-104 (even if just flypasts only)
This would be a huge one for me, having just missed out on F-104s in this hobby. I'm not sure of the status of it at the moment though, when did it last fly? I have a feeling there was an issue surrounding ejection seats?

Who was not put off by the canceled show?

They've still not resolved the seat rocket pack issue, so it hasn't flown for a few years now

Again, being a wish list it’s not to cast-iron - I know some are unlikely, but worth noting that when we interviewed Eskil Amdal on the podcast, I *think* (but can’t remember - I’ll go back and find it) he said that they had found a solution to the seat issue, and perhaps would be flying next year.

Edit:-

About 42 mins in:

That’s current up to February this year. No idea if the latest.

Korean KF-21. Perhaps a bit soon for 2023 but maybe 2024?
Would be nice to see it parked next to an F-22.

KF-21 will attend RIAT at some point anyway. Poland will be operating them, it turns out they had to buy the FA-50 in order to participate in the program. BTW its now been announced the first polish SU-22 will be retired next year which is faster than the expected OSD of 2025.

I’m curious as to why Poland would want KF-21s when they’re already buying F-35As

Hopefully we'll get one last chance to see the Su-22 from Poland at Fairford - once they're retired, I very much doubt we'll see an Su-22 appearing at RIAT again (Angola, Iran, Libya, Syria, Vietnam and Yemen must surely be some of the least likely participants to RIAT - let alone to bring along their fast jets).

Otherwise, we'll have to hope that HHA get a contract that, in their own words, requires the performance and flight envelope of the SU22 platform - we can dream!

After watching some Oshkosh videos, out of all the F-35 displays I think the Navy F-35C demo is pretty special and would be cool to see.

USAF F-35A, RAF F-35B and US Navy F-35C formation? That would be fantastic to see.

If you can't wait until RIAT, book a flight to the USA in October this year. Edwards plan to fly all three variants. Can't guarantee a 17sqn B though.

It'd be great to see the Swiss bring along an F-5E and F-5F for the static display (the operational, non-Patrouille Suisse jets) - they can't have too long left now - albeit I can't keep track of their retirement date. A PC-6, Super Puma or EC635 would be welcome additions as well.

Cold war hardware please...

Norwegian Starfighter
Swedish Draken, Viggen
German Tornado
Polish Su-22, Mig-29, Hind
Turkish Phantom, F-5
Swiss F-5
Greek Phantom
French Mirage 2000
USAF A-10, B-1, B-52
Czech Hind, Hip
Croatian Hip, MiG-21

Maybe not *totally* unrealistic on all counts!?

Polish hinds don't even fly in Poland (unless its to keep the pilots certified) :D the government has no ammunition for them since about 2016. They are so useless there's no point even sending them to Ukraine, unless for spare parts. They are getting replaced by either AH-64s or the Viper + UH-1Y Venom combo (Czech Republic chose this option).

As for Croatia, I think someone else mentioned they don't have the funds to send something to RIAT.

This year should also be the last out of 4 when Bastille day celebrations are on the same weekend as RIAT.

I hope 2023 can bring some more countires from Africa, Asia or South America.
