This week, a set of photos from our first visit to the de Havilland Aircraft Museum since their new display hall was erected. Good to see so many of the airframes now under cover and protected from the British weather.

This week we take a look at one of the (in our opinion) most stunning preserved Mosquitos, TA634, which resides at the de Havilland Aircraft Museum at Salisbury Hall.Restored in its original bomber configuration, it looks like it has flown many sorties thanks to its used look finish to its RAF paintwork.

To mark the 40th anniversary of the Falklands War, we present a set of photos of one of the aircraft that served during the conflict, Westland Wessex XP142 ‘Humphrey’
Still showing the damage caused by Argentinian Dagger jets, Humphrey is back on display at the Fleet Air Arm Museum at RNAS Yeovilton.

Over the next few weeks we will be covering our visit to Duxford late last year (so don’t expect any up to date photos!)
This week we start with a look around Airspace.

A sort of break from aviation this week, as we start coverage from our visit to Brooklands Museum in Surrey.
This week we take a look at some of the cars, with photos of the aircraft and other things to follow over the next few weeks.

Re: aviationanoraks.co.uk
One of the recent developments at Brooklands was the moving of the Wellington hangar and the creation of the Aircraft Factory within once reconstructed.
This is how redevelopment of a museum should be, artefacts still on display and proper hands-on things for people to learn from, not just push-button displays that make a noise as some museums seem to have installed!
More on our website this week.

Re: aviationanoraks.co.uk
We featured this aircraft some years ago when it was in its previous position within the museum, but with different access now it resides in the Brooklands Aircraft Factory we decided to run a follow up. More famously known as the ‘Loch Ness Wellington’ following its ditching there on 31st December 1940, N2980 is the only surviving Wellington to have seen active service during World War II.

More from Brooklands Museum this week, but with a slightly different tilt - We look at some of the historic buildings and artefacts at this site which is steeped in over a hundred years history of racing and aircraft development.

Harrier T.52 G-VTOL This week we take a look at one of the stars of Brooklands Flight Shed, the former Hawker Siddeley / British Aerospace company demonstrator and trials aircraft, G-VTOL. This aircraft travelled the world demonstrating the Harriers unique capabilities, and is preserved in its last guise, as the Skyhook project test aircraft.

Re: aviationanoraks.co.uk
Our final set from Brooklands takes in the aircraft park, which features a number of Vickers post-war aircraft types.
If you have never been to Brooklands it is worth considering. The transformation over the last few years has made this into very well presented museum, definitely a full day out.
Aircraft and exhibits have not been pushed aside to make way for ‘hands-on’ displays, they have been made part of it, giving context to what visitors are allowed to do. Something other museums could and should learn from.
The volunteers we met were enthusiastic, learned and interesting, and happy to take on board any new information about the exhibits they were looking after (had a long conversation about the RB199 engine and having just read quite a bit about these was able to add to the volunteers knowledge, for which he was grateful).
Unfortunately we don’t live close to Brooklands, otherwise we would visit much more often and most likely become members.

Located on what was RAF Tempsford in Bedfordshire, Gibraltar Farm barn was the last place many SOE agents saw before being flown to occupied Europe during WWII.
These photos are our tribute to those agents and the aircrews that transported them, many not making it home.
We Will Remember Them.

A one week break from aviation now at aviationanoraks with a look around the worlds first large iron ship with a screw propeller, the SS Great Britain.
Preserved in the dock in which it was originally built, the story of its recovery from the Falkland Islands is truly incredible, as is the restoration work that has been carried out since.
Well worth a visit if you find yourself in Bristol.

This weeks set is a study of the Fleet Air Arm Museums Supermarine Walrus L2301.
Nice to be able to get this close to such a rare type and be able to get the close-up shots, some of which are on aviationanoraks.co.uk now.

Re: aviationanoraks.co.uk
We featured this aircraft some years ago at aviationanoraks, but as it is one of the most impressive pieces of conservation we have seen, we decided to feature it again. The sole surviving G-36A variant of the Wildcat/Martlet from an order for the French that was diverted to the UK when France fell in 1940.

Not aviation, but with an aviation link this week, with photos from a visit earlier this year to Brean Down fort in Somerset.
Built in Napoleonic times, the fort was modified in World War Two to become a coastal gun battery and also a test site for prototype weapons, including work carried out on the Upkeep and Highball bombs.
