Duxford Flying Evening - 27th August 2022
Hi all, anyone else here going to this show? seems even Duxford are being really quiet about it. Anyways, this is the lineup
Extra 300
Hawker Hurricane Mk.I
Hawker Hurricane Mk.I
Yakovlev Yak-18T, Yakovlev Yak-52 (pair)
Hawker Nimrod Mk.I
Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Ia
Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb
Fokker Triplane DR1 (Replica)
Curtiss P-40C Warhawk
Curtiss P-36C Hawk
Republic P-47D Thunderbolt
Hispano HA-112 M1L Buchon
Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress 'Sally B'
North American AT-6C
Consolidated PBY-5A Catalina
Grumman F8F-2P Bearcat
Goodyear Corsair FG-1D
Hawker Fury FB.II
de Havilland Vampire FB6
it's a good lineup to be fair, but i can't help but feel with a 6.45 start time, and it most likely being dark at about 8.30, that's going to be a lot to try and fit in

I was thinking about it but didn’t realise flying started so late.
Is there a flightline walk or anything beforehand?

I would expect a lot of those aircraft to fly in combined slots (Curtiss Hawks together, Hawker fighters, Bearcat & Corsair, etc)

Re: Duxford Flying Evening - 27th August 2022
I assume the same, but still feels a lot to get into what will be about 1 and half hour of show
there doesn't appear to be much detail from IWM about what's happening, this is their info
"Flying is scheduled to start at approximately 6.45pm. Hangars will close at 9pm. A full programme will be confirmed before the event. The event is expected to end at 10pm.
Please note that flying times will depend on weather, serviceability, operation commitment and pilot availability on the day. Please ask a staff member or volunteer on the day if you would like further information."
all feels quite vague, i believe the tickets are only valid from 5pm

This is the first time for me doing the evening show.
When will it be best to arrive?
Also will the tank bank be open?

You can’t arrive until 5, and the tank bank will most likely be open

If you have a day ticket, or free for members, you can arrive early and they will give you a wrist band to let you stay on site after 4pm. Or at least they did last year.
Triplane DR1 is off the list replaced by 2 Chipmunks and last heard the P.47 is broken.

Catalina is static according to their Facebook page last night.

So, if you go in early and pay the standard £25 entry fee, they'll let you stay and avoid paying £30 for the evening flying?Pen Pusher wrote: ↑Wed 24 Aug 2022, 8:36 amIf you have a day ticket, or free for members, you can arrive early and they will give you a wrist band to let you stay on site after 4pm. Sounds a bit strange.

No, you have to have a ticket for the Flying Evening as well as a day ticket, or free day entry plus ticket for Flying Evening if you are a member.Adam the gardener wrote: ↑Thu 25 Aug 2022, 4:43 pmSo, if you go in early and pay the standard £25 entry fee, they'll let you stay and avoid paying £30 for the evening flying?Pen Pusher wrote: ↑Wed 24 Aug 2022, 8:36 amIf you have a day ticket, or free for members, you can arrive early and they will give you a wrist band to let you stay on site after 4pm. *Update* : Please note that tomorrow’s display will begin at 6pm, not at 6.45pm as previously advertised.

Wow! Those Duxford cogs do turn slowly. The Post by rockfordstone early on Tuesday morning only took nearly 4 days of consideration before the Duxford organising team realised the quite obvious time/daylight constraints didn't work?

Re: Duxford Flying Evening - 27th August 2022
well, despite the confusion about the start times, that turned out to be a great show.
shame the extra had a few issues with some of the pyro, but on the whole a really enjoyable show
