What a massive kick in the teeth that is. Pretty much the only thing that was keeping the 'USAF 75th' theme together.
Not sure about that. The E-4 is probably one of Air Tattoo’s greatest ever pulls of the modern era.

But yes, it’s a big loss from the flying/static. Poor DBH.
The E-4 is a superb catch but the flying B-52 was the anniversary show piece I think. As lucky as we are to have an Osprey display I feel the commentators are going to have to work very hard to sell that to the majority as the USAF anniversary Center piece.

Aaaagh well, it is what it is and always the risk.

The old adage "its not confirmed until the tyres are on the tarmac" springs to mind.

Ah well, still loads and loads of stuff to get excited about including eight little Korean jets that *are definitely in the country!*

What are the chances now of getting one of the Korean C-130's on static?

That's terrible news, star of the show for me personally.

The BUFFs, particularly the flyer, are a big loss - it would have added a lot to have another heavy in the flying.

None, as they've all gone back home for the time being 🤷‍♂️

Surprising for both B-52s to cancel, being that they're from different wings. "Operational reasons" is obvious a very broad term if that is indeed the reason, but usually that affects a specific unit, rather than two very much geographically separate ones.

A great shame for RIAT at this late stage.

It’s weird that two B-52s from two separate wings have simultaneously pulled the plug. Problems with tanker support across the pond, perhaps?

Both BUFFs cancelled? Really? For me the B-52 was the real star and highlight of the show, and nothing else confirmed comes close. So gutted.

I just said that :joy:

I'm fairly sure tanker support isn't required and hasn't been used in the past for B-52s to RIAT.

:disappointed:

Absolutely gutted. It'll still be a good show, but that is a real kick in the nuts.

It could just be aircraft availability, remember the buff is quite an old girl and probably needs a little bit of tlc from time to time.

Can the U2 pilots request to perform a few flypasts again (that'd soften the blow)

With the B-52 cancellation and hot weather on Saturday/Sunday I've decided I am not going on the weekend. I am looking for someone to swap tickets with. I have 2x Saturday tickets with the Swindon bus and I am looking for 2x Friday tickets.

Gutted. That's all I can say. Apart from being big and impressive when airborne the B-52 is an icon of the USAF. The 75th anniversary is nothing without a B-52 on display at the very least.

The USAF 75th Anniversary with just a flying Osprey :frowning2:

Ah well thank goodness the Austrian demo is still turning up (I hope), that's now the highlight for me!

Don't be too hasty, the lineups for the weekend are still extraordinary and really Friday doesn't come close. You can manage the weather if you're careful and you wouldn't want to regret a hasty decision, that's all I'm saying.

I am a bit surprised to say the least at the rather sketchy US participation this year.

To not have even 1 of the bombers that are a semi-regular sight at RAF Fairford the rest of the year, seems weird. Hey-ho, plenty of other interesting aircraft to see, but it's a huge static gap & in the flying just for the take-off if little else....

It’s gutting, but honestly, you’ll regret this decision.

Just go. Trust me.

If you’re that desperate to see BUFFs, take a few days off work when they’re here on BTF. There are options if it’s “see a BUFF” at all cost. There’s so much to this show you’ll miss out on.

You'd be mad to cancel your tickets. When else are you going to (probably) see a Viggen, an A-4, a U-2 and/or an E-4B up close? How about a Hind or the Typhoon QRA display... plus there's the small matter of the Black Eagles!

Stick with it mate would be my advice :)
