Couple of Classic Wings prices for some air to air https://www.classic-wings.co.uk/harvard ... gqK5MTyqs# and https://www.classic-wings.co.uk/wing-to ... wQZCbZxoV4

Either £349 or £879. Sorry but those prices are a bit to much for my liking.

My view is that that would be unlikely. Given the capacity at the airshows, a mid-week event should have plenty of room.

The programme is essentially the same on both the 4th and 5th, but repeated morning and afternoon on the 4th with the added attraction of a mass parachute jump with round chutes. Or alternatively go for the 5th, with the departure to Normandy, which could potentially see a number of other warbirds for escorts about.

I have never been to an event similar to this and don't really know what to expect. So I would appreciate any advice.

Also, it is possible tickets will sell out closer to the event?

Phil

im going both days, and will likely be there on the sunday when they all arrive.
i've rationalised it on the basis i might not see an event like this again in my life, certainly not that many daks in one place

I wouldn’t be so sure, the capacity of Duxford in ‘full-on airshow mode’ with stewards is probably significantly higher than it is in ‘interesting fly-in/event type thing mode’ with fewer stewards. Only speculating though.

I think I read a piece by one of the US C-47s coming over that they’re expecting to use modern round chutes, that have a limited steering ability, rather than WW2 round chutes that really don’t. Regardless, not sure I’d want to jump out over Duxford with the M11 going full chat under me without a modern square chute....

I had wondered about that too. My childhood memories of parachute drops with round chutes, involved multiple fields over half a county, rather than a small target and smoke flare.

Was in the cafe at Duxford today. Guys on the table next to me loudly discussing the Daks over Normandy night photo shoot they are organising. Not much option other than to listen whilst I ate......

Apparently its going to be £95 for access to three aircraft only. The rest to be strictly ‘off limits’. More worried that visitors don’t trip over and sue the museum than they get to see the aircraft.
Cheers

I am going to this event both days, I can't miss 30+ Dakota's on the ground and in the air. I was going to go to Cosford Airshow, taking place a few days later, but I couldn't afford to go to both events, so went in favour of this, once in a lifetime possibly event.

Will there be a Shuttle Bus, taking people from outside Cambridge Train Station, to Duxford Airfield ? Like happens, when the Airshows take place ? I don't drive you see.

I trust there won't be many punters for that - puts the Northolt Nightshoots in context!

I don't drive either, so I really hope so.

I certainly hope not! If true, then that's just pure greed.
With the size of Duxford's flightline, you could easily have an organised (by TLE, threshold etc) evening/sunset shoot with all/most of the aircraft parked up on the flightline for a much more reasonable price...

Greed or trying to cover costs for a one off event the will be very difficult to set any budget for?

I do however think it is poor marketing - more people at a lower cost may be a better aim.

Seems a huge cost for very limited access. We'll see shortly I guess but I won't rush for a place if those details are correct. I see only an hour is shown on the program (22:00 - 23:00) so not much time for anything really. A great shame.

It seems a bit pointless having a night shoot at all at that time of year. It doesn't get properly dark, even in the middle of the night. Is it worth it?

As with all these night shoots / specialist shoots it's worth it to someone. They seem to always sell out.

A question for those who've bought standard tickets for Caen-Carpiquet. Did you receive e-tickets by email?

I purchased a pair of tickets on 1st Feb, but all I have now is the paypal receipt email. I thought there was maybe another email with e-tickets, but if so I have lost/deleted it.

I have emailed info@daksovernormandy.com who asked me to contact tickets@daksovernormandy.com which I have done, but no response after a couple of days, so just wanted to check with others.

Apologies for the stupid question...

Great, thanks. I definitely don't have that, so I must have inadvertently deleted it. :wall:

Hopefully they can reissue.

Facebook feed............

Dear friends, as of this afternoon we are experiencing great difficulties with the landowners of the Ranville Drop Zone.. We are in very close contact with all parties involved to find a quick solution to this problem.. What this solution will be, we do not know yet. But we WILL jump into Normandy on 5 June in a combined effort with both the UK and French Airborne Forces.. Please keep track of this page for further information. Best regards, Daks over Normandy Staff..

> Tickets are only available online in advance for 2-5 June 2019. While the main event days are 4 and 5 June, the 2 and 3 June will also be busy therefore tickets for the whole ‘Daks Over Duxford’ period will be advance bookings only. This will help us manage the traffic coming on to site better and will improve the overall customer experience.
>
> On the 2 and 3 June 2019 we begin our preparation for the main event as the Dakotas land at IWM Duxford. Standard entry prices and free parking apply on these days however, tickets are still advance bookings only.
>
> Ticket sales for each day will come off sale the day before at 23:59 or when advanced tickets reach our capacity. Tickets will not be available at IWM Duxford on any of the days 2-5 June.

Brian,

Thanks for that. I have standard membership, so was just planning to turn up on Sunday 2nd. Their info suggests that tickets are needed (could even be read to include members) for 2nd and 3rd and are only available in advance. However, their site only allows purchases for 4th and 5th! Any ideas?

If you go to the page for buying standard day tickets https://www.maximweb.net/ImperialWarMuseums/day/?eventconfig=3&_ga=2.148920446.953831850.1555070230-2005488426.1549199813 then you can select the option as an IWM Member (second one I seem to remember) which gives you the free ticket for the 2nd and 3rd June.

I take it the Sun/Mon tickets are sold out rather than "unavailable"?

my understanding is you book a standard ticket though the website, not through the air show ticket process.
you just have to preorder your entry... i think
