Greetings,
New member.....(probable infrequent poster, mostly a visitor)....quick bio at the end of post.

I've been to Duxford while on layovers in Cambridge, but only on non-event days (only twice). I'm going to be in the London/Cambridge area for a family vacation (from the states) middle of July and would like to coordinate visiting the Duxford Air Festival 2018.
However, I have ZERO insight as to what to expect, reasonably.

Anyone care to enlighten us as to:
Logistics? Can one drive a car, or is it maddening? Public transportation advised?
Actually seeing the show. Are the crowds overwhelming? Is it worth to become a member, affording specialty seating?
Are the static displays and museum exhibits overwhelmed during this festival?
Should we simply visit Duxford on a non-event date?

Essentially, I'm looking for some good gouge on seeing the show and chat about experience, etc. Most probably only a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see it with my whole family.

Thank you in advance,
b0ney-t

I have been to Duxford on airshow days on numerous occasions all by car. There is lots of parking, and just like with most airshows, I'd certainly advise to be there for when gates open (quick google search says 8:00 for this show). Of course, that's if you want to be right at the front of the crowd, you could arrive later and still manage to park, although the traffic of cars waiting to park may build up. The crowdline at Duxford is very long, and for photography, most people go to either far end, and the position of the sun gets better as the day goes along.

Flying Legends in July tends to be a little more busy than the shows in May and September, but it does feature warbirds from across the UK and Europe and is certainly one of my highlights of the year if I have the chance to go. You pay extra for slightly closer access to the static aircraft, but it is worth it for some photographs before the flying starts. The museum (which is big!) gets quite busy, so it would be worth coming on a quiet day if you can. I would recommend the Friday before the show, as it is usually filled with practice displays, whilst still allowing you to explore the museum hangars without huge crowds. If you can only come on one day, then definitely go to the airshow. You can certainly have a quick look around the hangars before the flying starts around 2pm, especially if you arrive as soon as gates open.

Duxford may not be the best for photography, but it is certainly one of the best for the actual experience of seeing a huge number of warbirds taxi along very close to you before taking off. Duxford is also famous for having lots of aircraft in the air at the same time, there will be Spitfires (Mark I to XVIII) behind you, in front of you etc. which is an amazing sight, made even better by the fact it is at such a historic location. Feel free to PM me and ask more or just post here, lots of friendly people on here :)

Pleased to see the ex Alpine Fighter Museum Hurricane attending, excellent.

Hello folks, just joined this forum, attending Flying Legends from Oz this year.
Bit of a bucket list trip, like many I would imagine, have been a warbird fan
since my first viewing of the Battle as a lad in the late 1960s.

Have a question re viewing the static displays when at the show, is there time
to have a look through the land museum and static aeroplane hangers during
the two days of Legends, plan to be there from gates open to closed?

Thank you..........

Thank you David should have made myself more clear, so can view
the display hangers without missing the flying during the show?

Ah, that's a shame. Monsieur Chabbert is the sound of Legends. Love him or not, there was never a dull moment with him commentating. I hope its just one year off.

Going back a few years, I seem to remember that he had a year off a while ago when Bastille Day was over the weekend, so hopefully it will just be the one year again.
