Can't read the link it keeps throwing unwanted demands for a pass or something in front of the information and won't let me proceed unless I buy its damned pass, but I get the jist. Weather looks quite ropey for Sunday, but not too bad Saturday.

Nice additions. Shame ARCo’s Lysander isn’t ready.

Have to question the wisdom of IWM putting this show so late in the year to be honest.

Not sure why you say that, September can often be one of the most calm months of the year! UK weather is a total lottery, in previous years a lot of the summer shows have been washouts, and it was the autumn shows that had the best weather.

Admittedly, this show is looking like it could be badly affected by the weather.

Jalfrezi is right, it's always a lottery - although I do wonder why it wasn't held over Battle of Britain weekend itself.

Out of curiosity does anyone know how bad the weather or warnings need to be before Duxford decide to cancel. I remember a few years back Southport cancelled a Sunday a few days before hand due to heavy rain forecasts.

From FAQ's

Can I get my money back if it's raining on the day?

No. In the event of an Air Show being cancelled for any reason, including weather related circumstances, tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable. All flying is subject to weather conditions and aircraft serviceability.

Included in the ticket price is entry to IWM Duxford Museum.

It does't surprise me one bit with the reputation the IWM have, but really, we are getting a server weather warning and being advised not to travel, and they still expect you to go.

I've just cancelled my day off tomorrow - with wind speeds of 20-25mph, gusting at 40mph+ between 0900-1800 I don't think much of the smaller stuff will fly on Friday (to put this in context I think the top limit for the BBMF fighters is 15mph). I would speculate/guess a lot of the visiting aircraft will fly in Saturday morning when the wind will have calmed down.

I guess its a sign of the times that display organisers like pre-booking as it virtually guarantees their income irrespective of the weather. With the weather on Sunday looking dire and the prospect of zero flying happening I wonder if they might feel duty bound to cancel the show? Somehow I doubt it - which makes for an expensive museum tour!

Even if a Tornado were forecast for the weekend  and to close the show, a nuclear explosion was to take place  , there would still be tailbacks on the M11 and A505 to get into the show... :dizzy: :lmao:

In fairness to Duxford, I would imagine at this late stage, most of their expenses will be irrecoverable. I don't really see that they should have to cover a financial loss because of the weather. They have put together what looks to be a great show, with people hunting around for tickets for the last few weeks, so obviously, a lot of people think so.

I would only expect a refund if the event didn't happen as a result of the organiser's negligence, that clearly isn't the case here.

You take a gamble on the weather at the time you decide to buy an advance ticket. :dunno:

As Brian rightly points out, it could be worse, it could be an open field in the middle of nowhere.

I agree, I've got a Sunday ticket and I've had to check myself for feeling annoyed about it. This year I've been to five other airshows and the weather has been amazing at every one so far. Can't really complain.

i could be wrong, but i think the pre-booking is a legislation thing now to ensure that they know how many people are on site and that you don't get 1000's of people showing up on the off chance of getting in, blocking roads and hanging around in unprotected areas.

i don't think its a business decision, i think it's law now

i did the same, but to be fair we have been fairly spoilt for weather at air shows this year. bar half an hour downpour at RIAT, it's been a largely excellent season weatherwise.

still, we're brits, when has a bit of rain ever stopped us having fun

I have a Sunday ticket and with the forecast looking very poor; suspect I won't be travelling the long distance. Hope they're able to salvage something for the weekend, but not sure you'll see much in the air!
