Duxford 2019: Hopes & expectations.

Post by Airshowhammer »

As Duxford has had its teething problems the past few shows, what do you reckon could make 2019 succesful in the enthusiasts eyes and not the wallets of IWM?

Mine are:
* Pricing needs sorting.
* Some more international participation would be lovely (we’ve seen Duxford attract the likes of PDF, the Rafale, Norwegian & Belgian F16 and USAF F15 in recent years) how about something like the Swedish Historic Flight? if they get permission to fly in the UK? Whatever is at Lakenheath/ Mildenhall that can offer a flypast? Swiss Hornet? ACC? Seeing as Cosford can pull this off, I see no reason why Duxford can’t. Don’t want to get my hopes up to high though.
* Some more statics. Lancaster operating from Dux / Merlin / Osprey.
* Crowdline. At the September show it was a shambles.
* Actually displaying some of the warbirds at Duxford not over London. But the collection is a sight to behold and If they have anywhere near as many at next years show i’ll be happy!

I like Duxford as a venue. Just don’t want to lose my enjoyment for what can be a great show.

I'd like to see some more international participation. I think when it comes to jets tho they are bound by where they can base them. They have to come out of Cambridge airport in a lot of cases so I think that's part of it.

I don't think the shows will be nearly as busy as the September one was

All I want is for them to move that bloody funfair!

Also... if you think its too expensive, but also think it's too busy... you need to make your mind up.

Don't think anyone has complained about it being busy? The crowdline yes as its full of clutter!

Ah, I misunderstood. Please accept my apologies!

To be honest the problem with Duxford's crowdline is that the only places worth watching from are the extreme ends of the airfield. I really like parking up and watching from my car at the LWH end, but that god forsaken funfair is often in the way - meaning I have to join the crush at the front.

Utterly thoughtless planning!

It's almost as though, for all of its historical significance, Duxford is becoming a slightly inappropriate venue to host 'big shows.' :pinkwafer:

The crowd line is my biggest bug bear with the place. So much space wasted in the middle because of all the old airliners and that it's the main taxiway. It is what it is... Stansted ATC limits also impact some display teams on the occasional occasion (!) where a full show is possible.

No issue with the price of food, I don't buy it.

Parking charge rankles with me... but if I want to go and get there early, my choice on that is limited.

Never ever, ever, ever, ever enough toilets at the LWH end. Taking a towel and an empty Coke bottle with me next year.
Now officially qualifies as a 'regular' at Famous Dave's - El Centro

Use a Lucozade or Oasis bottle, the opening is wider.

I wonder if the Reds will be at the May show given they won't be able to do the September one.
