Vintage Evening at Duxford - 22nd June 2019
Historic Aircraft Collection at Duxford are holding a small evening airshow on the 22nd June which will hopefully see the first public display of the DH.9.
£19.50 for a standard adult ticket, starts at 6:30pm and includes:
HAC: DH.9, Spitfire, Hurricane, Fury and Nimrod II
Visiting: Fokker DR.I Triplane, DH51, Rapide, SE5 and Leopard Moth (static only).
Looks like a nice little event

This does sound like it could be a great event, really looking forward to seeing the DH.9. Hope the weather holds out and we get some lovely golden light for photos.
Does anyone know if you are only allowed on site at 6.30 for the event, or allowed on for the day and then stay for the evening show?

Museum is open as usual but not included in the ticket price, AFAIK.
Re: Vintage Evening at Duxford - 22nd June 2019
Just out of interest, how are they going to manage this one?
Museum, hangers close at 6pm, this show starts 6:30.
So for those who haven’t paid for the actual evening show, i wonder how they’re going to get everyone ‘off site’?

I guess it will be the same as they do following a normal airshow - they'll sweep from one end of the site to the entrance.

Interesting proposition, but can't help thinking the list looks a little light for the money, especially when compared to Shuttleworth evening show prices. Display will probably only last an hour?

Re: Vintage Evening at Duxford - 22nd June 2019
£20 for an evening at Duxford with the DH-9, Nimrod, Fury, a "new" SE5, and the Comet flying seems reasonable to me, but then I fall into the category of enthusiast who would happily throw that money at HAC/Dux just to see the DH-9.
Re: Vintage Evening at Duxford - 22nd June 2019
I've got a ticket for this and am looking forward to it, but I suspect it is unlikely that the DH-9 will have flown off the necessary hours and have the paperwork processed and a full permit issued by then.

Which is presumably exactly the audience this event is aimed at. I'm in!
For my taste this event potentially represents better value for money than last weekend's "Air Festival". Also, any of the Duxford private operators who venture to try something different are likely to get my support, especially after last weekend's "Air Festival"...

I've got an email query in to Duxford to see if shuttle busses will be laid on for this event.
Will post the info when I get it.

It's a HAC event, not an IWM Duxford event. Why would IWMD provide a shuttle bus for an event that is not theirs.

As the tickets are being sold through the IWM website and it is being advertised on their website, then it is a legitimate question to ask them.
Re: Vintage Evening at Duxford - 22nd June 2019
Brian,
Does that mean that there will be no shuttle buses for Flying Legends this year, as that is also 'an event that is not theirs'?

Flying Legends is an air show not an event, as you put it, and therein lies the difference.

Re: Vintage Evening at Duxford - 22nd June 2019
There is comment in the Flying Legends thread suggesting that not many tickets have been sold for this. I notice this afternoon that there is no longer any evidence of the event on the IWM website and it's absence means that it doesn't seem to be possible to buy tickets any longer.
(I'd be happy to be proved wrong - the IWM website is just about the worst I have cause to visit...)
Is it still happening?

I've flagged that up with HAC already - they're reporting the issue to IWM.

I was actually interested in going to this then saw you still needed a parking pass so I decided against it anyway

Assuming this is indeed the case...
Enthusiasts wanted a Dx evening show for years.
Y'all got one with elusive Hawker biplanes and the DH-9 debut.
But no dice, because it wasn't a fiver or something.
Good news is, I doubt IWM will bother to give the concept another go, so you don't have to worry about not buying tickets again in future.

It was announced only about a month to six weeks in advance, and barely promoted at all. Had a thread not popped up on here, I would not have known about it.
Like other people, I’m not buying a ticket (for this or any other airshow) until I see the weather forecast, so they haven’t lost the opportunity to increase the gate yet.
It didn’t need to cost a fiver either, but in comparison to an OW evening show that lasts about 3 hours, there was barely enough on this list to fill 60 minutes. Gates opened not far in advance, and museum entry wasn’t included, so in order to make a day of it, as you can at OW, you’d have needed to fork out twice. Then you add a parking fee on top - if ticket sales are that bad, why do they need to deter people from travelling by car?
As a concept, it has merit, but let’s not pretend that we were served up something irresistible and it’s failure was entirely the fault of an ignorant audience, as you want to portray it. Lessons can still be learned and something not quite so hastily announced and poorly promoted might have the legs to establish itself in future.
