Marshalls rule out Duxford relocation, saving display flying

Post by boff180 »

Hi All,

The proposed relocation of Marshall Group from Cambridge Airport to Duxford will no longer go ahead. The move would have seen a facility built to the SW of the airfield and the runway extended.

The side effect of this move would have been that the new facility would be designated as a no-fly zone under CAA regulations - ending display flying at the airfield due to the location.

The announcement is good news for fans of Duxford.

I can't beleive that proposal was even mooted in such a historic please. The vista south of the aerodrome would have been destroyed.
Cheers

I suspect the 'proposal' had more to do with 'Marshall of Cambridge' being seen to explore every possibility in the Cambridge area before announcing that they're moving out of the area after more than 110 years as a major employer for the city.

You could still fly a display with the site being there anyway, it would just have to be cleared of people and certified as such in writing. The same with many other locations in the UK, its an added nause, but at least it looks like it wont be happening.

Totally impractical with a major commercial operation that has 24/7 elements to it
