I have been following this discussion thread with interest over the last couple of days, and I do not believe that people should be trying to circumvent security at this event or any event, and certainly not openly discussing techniques for doing so. Given that this is a public web forum, and we live in unsecure times, it maybe best that the moderators remove any posts on hear that refer to such matters.

Re: Enthusiast's Day (Friday)
I've been debating over getting an Enthusiast's ticket, but the £45 puts me off a little and I have a few questions to ask;
Obviously it's going to be busy but in comparision to the weekend how busy ?
Is there better opportunities to get shots of the static displays ?
Is the crowd line as packed as the weekends ?
Any help is appreciated.
Cheers

Re: Enthusiast's Day (Friday)
I've been going to Farnborough since 1978 mostly on Fridays. Friday used to be a public day until a few years ago and was always our day of choice for going. The Friday Trade/enthusiasts day is a lot less busy than public days. Busy yes but not too bad. Parking is easy, I've always got a place at the front, even up until lunchtime.
Farnborough is hit and miss for statics. There are many and varied obstructions in the way of a good photo.

Security is provided by the people that man the gates not by a ticket.

With respect this is hardly circumventing security, as previously posted security is provided at the entrance gate.
Its a well known fact that people have been going to Farnborough trade days for many many years who are not actually there for work purposes, one glance up and down the flightline on any trade day will show you that, I started going many years in my teens on trade days with my dad.
Farnborough have tightened up this year on the application process to be sure which maybe is not a bad thing, but if someone wanted to breach security at an airfield then i think they would find a way of doing it regardless of what is said on this forum.

Same here, but I used to go to what was then called rather grandly the Public Premiere (otherwise Friday!) from the early '60's until the late 80's. It cost extra, but it was well worth it to me. The public day's were very different then, being almost a re-run of the trade day's with a few extra's added on. Before anyone comments, Joe Public didn't generally buy aircraft back then either, but they still got to see the latest aircraft flown by the company test pilots.
As Derek has suggested perhaps, Farnborough is next to useless for most static shots.

Re: Enthusiast's Day (Friday)
I'm going to apply for a pair of trade tickets. I work as a school teacher and will ask for a pair of trade tickets so me and a colleague can visit the stands etc for 'educational' purposes
Re: Enthusiast's Day (Friday)
I tried that in 2008 but without any joy. Not everybody on a Trade Ticket got in. They seemed to wise up to it and were asking more questions. Apparently this year theyve upped security again and it's not automated anynmore. I know one of the Tem,ps they've taken on and she reckons you'll need something in writing to go with your Trade Ticket - if you've been managed to get one. Anybody going to chance it? I'm thinking it's not worth the effort. Better to go Sat/Sun?

If you need something in writing, then they haven't informed me yet and it starts next Monday.

Re: Enthusiast's Day (Friday)
If you need something in writing then they havent told anyone that, if thats true then they will be turning away hundreds if not thousands at the gates during the week, cant see it happening like that.

Re: Enthusiast's Day (Friday)
I'd be surprised to think that Farnboro' would be so anal about 'trade' tickets as surely someone buying a ticket is just more money in the coffers.
Obviously you don't want loads of Joe public just turning up, but those that do if suitably attired should be allowed in.
Has anyone just turned up on a trade day and tried to buy a ticket at the gate?
Incidentally, do the free shuttle buses from the stations run on the Friday?

Re: Enthusiast's Day (Friday)
I turned up last time (2008) on the Tuesday and just bought 2 tickets on the gate and I was wearing jeans and a T-Shirt, and had no problems getting in. However, unsure if this would work again this year, I may have just got lucky?
I hope to go on the Monday this year- thinking of just turning up again, but with all the talk of security etc, might be worth doing it online before hand? Only thing is, I want some idea of the weather first before shelling out on tickets.

Re: Enthusiast's Day (Friday)
Just checked with Fboro and the trade day tickets are vaild for any day, we booked all ours up for the Friday, but one of our party cant make it now and will go another day, Fboro say this is fine as the tickets are not dated as you will know if you have one.
I guess the reason for specifying a date you were going on the applciation was just to give them a rough idea of how many were coming each day.
