Swiss F-18 will be at Aalborg that weekend. I know its early days, but I really can't see Cosford putting together anything much different to its usual pedestrian fare. They'll be at least one item that's a gem, but there'll be no real showcase extravaganza.

For goodness sake, give it a rest! This airshow will be quite a spectacle, what we know of the plans for the static demonstrate that very clearly. If you've made your mind up that it's not for you then that's great, enjoy your Sunday doing something else.

I'm not expecting big foreign military presence, and 'showcase extravaganza'. If I want that I will go to RIAT.

I am going to Cosford because it is showcasing the RAF from 1918 right the way through to current day, both on static and flying. It's showcasing history right from their beginning with aircraft that may not be seen too often outside of an indoor museum setting. That is more exciting for me in the centenary year of the RAF than 'showcase extravaganza's' of fast jets and big display headliners'

Given the format alone, it is very different to its normal 'pedestrian fare.'

It's a historic event I want to be a part of that more than anything I have heard elsewhere.

Moving on from the doom and gloom, some updates on some of our resident aircraft that will be forming part of the unique RAF100 static exhibition. (Excuse the naff quality of the photos, it's pretty dark in the hangar!)

22 Squadron markings have recently been applied to our Wessex, plus we now have the tail rotor, exhausts and wheel covers which it was previously lacking. More news on our static helicopters coming out in the next couple of weeks hopefully...

And the BPAG volunteers have done a splendid job of polishing 'Black Mike' this weekend too. This grainy photo really doesn't do it justice!

Dat Wessex

Knowing what we know now, what a great shame it was that the RAF declined to preserve 22 Sqn Sea King at Cosford

Jags (ripple, spotty, pink, black, camo, and grey schemes), the beautiful VAAC Harrier, SHar, GR3, Wessex, Black Mike etc... - quite the collection Cosford has these days, independent of the museum!

Peter, I'm loving the updates on what is going to be a special RAF100 show.
That Wessex was amazing to see last year - now she's looking even better!

And Black Mike is looking good - one of my ex-RAF colleagues is part of that team and they've done an amazing job!!

With all the effort and money going into this static line up.
The biggest draw would be to get the V force outside lined up.
Now that would be something very special. To see all 3 in a semi circle line up.

I suspect that would be more time and effort than Peter and his team are prepared to commit to a one day photo opportunity given that they are buried deep inside the Cold War exhibition hall. It doesn't look like its just a case of sliding the door open and then wheeling them outside.

Heh, just a pair of wire-cutters and a ramp made out of cardboard boxes should sort it no probs. :joystick:

I would love to see that, is it possible to get them outside though with how the museum is laid out?

Yep, a semi-circle line up would indeed be unique Rich!

They missed the boat on that several years ago when all were "mobile" prior to the building of the CWM. Made a lot of enquiries with the staff but to no avail - all 3 were stuck in corners surrounded by crap before they were entombed.

Would really fill the era of how great the RAF was in the cold war.
Stick the V force out. Only place in can be done and the best time to do it.

Would be the event of the year or the century.

Forgetting one small point here...

In order to get them out of the CW Exhibition Hall, the wall has to be taken down and the aircraft suspended from the ceiling removed.....
In fact, the way the Vulcan is exhibited I'd place money it's virtually impossible to get out in one piece without disassembling the entire hangar.

I'm sure Peter and the Cosford team are open to suggestions, but keep them sensible lads

Yeah, the nose of the Vulcan is suspended off the ceiling so that just adds to the difficulty of that.

just a thought even though it doesn't fit in with the theme as such, but that MiG 21 Would look lovely outside.
