RIAT 2014 wishlist.

Post by Luke28 »

Since I've got the post RIAT blues I thought I'd turn my attention to what we hope to see in next years show, trying to be as realistic as possible.

1.) F-35 (I'd actually be more surprised if its not there than if it is there)
2.) Super Hornet (Farnborough year so a strong possibility)
3.) Polish Su-22 duo (The Fulcrum has been brilliant the past two years, but seen as I've never seen a Fitter I'm really hoping for these)
4.) French Rafale (It just has to return)
5.) Russian Knights (ok maybe un-realistic but the Red Arrows supported the Russian anniversary show so would be nice if they returned the favour)
6.) Greek F-16 (The pilots wanted to come this year but we got the Embraer instead so hopefully next year)
7.) As many Hercs from as many nations as possible with it being the aircrafts anniversary.
8.) SoloTurk (Brilliant display at Waddington and they want to do a UK Tour in 2014 so a big possibility)
9.) The return of the US heavies and a couple of LN Eagles in the static park.

362 days and counting :yahoo:

Hmm, is must be kind of easy for some people. But for me I'm struggling to think what I would wish for.
Here are my top ten wishes:
1.)F-35
2.)French Navy Role Demo
3.)Russian Knights
4.)F-22 Raptor (which won't happen due to defence cuts surely)
5.)Su-35 or Su-27
6.)Osprey
7.)Super Hornet (Swiss or US)
8.)Solo Turk
9.)Mig-29 (preferably Polish)
10.)Maybe some kind of Typhoon Role Demo Duo, like the Tornado Role Demo

Lastly, I would like to add the RAF Role Demo, which probably wouldn't happen due to deployments to different countries. If all of these came, both days would surely be a sell out, even the arrivals and departure days!
Hope 2014 is a good one, hopefully see some of you there!

Tommy
P.S. My parents have already agreed to take me again, they're going to buy the super early bird tickets, I & them really don't care whats going as long as there is some great jet action

If there are any F-4s still around, one of them please. Old hat to everyone here but I've never seen one airborne and as I'm hoping to do Arrivals and/or Departures it might be my only chance to see - and hear - one of my all-time favourites.

Hercs hercs hercs!

Soloturk would again be fantastic.

MiG-29 and Su-27 in whatever guise or variation!

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that DBH try something inventive with whatever aircraft they have available. Something like a NATO role demo with aircraft from various participating countries taking on different roles in acting out a combat scenario to show how the armed forces of different nations cooperate with each other. Kind of like the RAF role demo but more international. Other than that, the F-35 would be great to see, as would the Su-35. Also Ramex Delta, Polish Su-22 pair, Viggen, and a debut from the Chinese would be awesome to see.

2014 is the 60th anniversary of the end of the Indochina War........be a good excuse to persuade the Vietnam Airforce to attend { might annoy the French a bit , though !! }

Lets be honest its the 50th of the Red Arrows and the 40th of the F-16 being celebrated so it will run something like

Frecce Tricolori
Jordanian Falcons
Dutch F-16
Patrouille Suisse
Turkish F-16
Team Iskry
Norwegian F-16
Team Aguila
Danish F-16
Russian Knights (hahahaha)
Greek F-16
Patrouille de France
Belgian F-16
Team 60
Jordanian F-16
Red Arrows (formation with all the F-16s on Saturday and with all the other display teams on Sunday)
Red Arrows to close the show

USAF Thunderbirds would fit in nicely with both if they're back in action by then.

I reckon most of the big European display teams will be in attendance (Frecce, P de F, Aguila) along with the likes of the Diables Rouge etc.

Hopefully also some of the lesser seen teams: Patrouille Suisse (hoping so!), the Finnish Midnight Hawks, Teams Orlik and Iskry, and it also seems a good excuse for the debut of the Croatian Krila Oulje (Wings of Storm) who've had their attendance banded about for several years now.

Also perhaps a return of the fantastic Black Eagles, with it being a Farnborough year maybe KAI will sponsor another tour...or maybe not...

Maybe even that touted Russian reciprocation too?!

Good themes next year. Certainly some scope!

Bumped into Tim Prince on Sunday, and next year is the full airshow debut of F35 ( with USMC support) at RIAT. Also as it's 40 years of the Falcon, it's a worldwide F16 meet! I also asked about the Chinese participation. He smiled, and posed for a photo with me!

Next years anniversaries certainly give the show a lot of potential. I can envisage an F-35/Reds fly past already.

As I posted in Aviation Waffle: a part of the flying devoted to classic jets, park them in the loop at the green entrance near the fence, then leave part of the apron to the public and use the most inner part for the Breitling Stearmans, offering wingwalk-taxi rides to people that want to see these aircraft from a higher point of view, and replacing the adrenalin zone. When the machines are to display, they can just taxi along the crowd to the runway like they always did at airfete.

I see a lot of people want Solo Turk, I don't remember if it was in Leeuwarden or Fairford in 2011, but I heard them saying Solo Turk was a three year (and three year only) project, which would mean they won't be around anymore next year.

Ah , but did airfete have to comply with the following :
Aircraft parking areas will be out of bounds to spectators when engines are running or aircraft are taxiing.
Ground Operations
During all ground operations, including refuelling, servicing and at any time when engines or rotors are running, a minimum separation of 15m should be maintained between spectator areas and the nearest point of the aircraft concerned.
This limit applies to aircraft taxiing or hover-taxiing, except when such taxiing is away from a marked taxiway and without the assistance of a marshaller, when the minimum clearance is increased to 65m.

RIAT is a week earlier next year, and RIAT is Friday, Saturday, Sunday show. So it's actually 353 days including today (Tuesday).

My wishlist:
-Turkish Stars - Missed out on these in 2008 when the show was cancelled. Still yet to see them.
-Super Hornet - Well it's a Farnborough year next year, thus making it very likely? Always a fantastic display.
-Swiss F-18 - Would be nice to see its return. Was great to see in 2009.
-Greek F-16 demo team 'Zeus' - Would be great to see Zeus over here after the rumors of it's possible attendance this year. With it being a non Radom year (which they usually attend), perhaps more likely next year?
-Hopefully we'll see the return of some US static aircraft next year too.

Since it's the Reds 50th Anniversary, I would like to see at least one of the North American teams over here. (If they're active of course!)

It's a bit early, in no particular order, trying to be fairly realistic and factoring in some of anniversaries (Red Arrows, F-16, Hercules etc)...

- F-35
- Anything from the US
- Polish Su-22 demo (change from the excellent MiG-29 display)
- Hellenic Air Force F-16 "Zeus" demo
- Solo Turk F-16
- Ramex Delta
- French Navy Rafale role demo
- A380 demo (it will surely be at Farnborough)
- C-27J display
- Hornet and Super Hornet demo
- A more varied and larger static display
- Anything out of the ordinary. Something from Russia would be very nice.
- Breitling Connie in the flying
- Canberra PR9 flying
- Swedish Historic Flight
- Mass display team formation flyby to celebrate the Red Arrows anniversary. Similar to what was seen at Zeltweg a few years ago.

with 2014 being a Farnborough year, the logic would be to share as many acts as possible, funded by the industry and save the cash for 2015 where, as we have seen, they can struggle and then buy in some of the private acts. Cant wait to see what they offer for the Friday, if its an afternoon show with little traffic and lots of room to browse the static in the morning, them thats perfect. With practice and arrivals on the Thursday, I can be home by 10 on the Friday night before the horrible weekend crowds
