DBH offered them static only.

On the flying front the reason it wasn't booked was that the flying display was already fully booked by military, sponsor and theme acts which quite rightly take priority.

If the same logic is applied this year then fair enough, if the display is filled with the three aforementioned categories then no, 558 shouldn't be there. Conversely, if it isn't filled then it is likely 558 will be there.

Based on the RIAT Facebook page earlier in the year, I believe the themes are as follows:

Vulcan is amazing
Vulcan is amazing and I'm proud to be British
Vulcan is amazing and damn those pesky foreigners coming and taking our land and display slots

I still can't get over the fact that a blooming PLANE not being at an AIRSHOW managed to become the focal point for xenophobia and racism. It really makes me despair for the UK.

Edit: I wrote

Code: Select all

p lane
but it has been autocorrected to aircraft? Why?

Because when shaping wood, you of course use a plane!

Edit: The grammar-Nazi in me is more annoyed that it doesn't fix "a plane" to "an aircraft" by the way

As far as I can find , the 2015 themes haven't been announced yet.......unless they've been made available t FRIAT Members ??
Although maybe one of the themes could be : "Will the 'Dodgy Dave' actually make it over this year ?"

Why is the forum autocorrecting this though? A p-l-a-n-e is different to say a helicopter or a glider or a balloon, but they are all aircraft? Utter stupidity?

Interestingly, I've heard quite a few pilots (possibly all RN but not sure) refer to helicopters as planes.

Edit: well I guess the plural is allowed.

That's a stroke of luck as I would hate to go back to Chino to visit "Aircrafts of Fame".

The plural works , as you've already found.
So does airplane/aeroplane ( which it's an abbreviation of ) , as well as biplane , triplane & monoplane.

Guess the world's media have been wrong for years , then........

For me a reasonably realistic choice would be - Sea Vixen (last seen some years ago on a distant high flyby as I recall) and Spanish AV8B Harrier.

I would hope DBH would be grown up enough not to hold a grudge regardless of how unpleasant it got this year. If the vulcan is still flying then, then they should still be invited.

I think DBH should invite them and offer a static slot only though. If VTTS swallow their pride and accept, DBH then offer a flying slot. If they say no, well... We'll see their true colours either way.
