I'm part of the Media Liaison Group, taking last year as an example I.... helped set up the media centre, escorted media when tasked, escorted VIPs/celebrities including driving for them when tasked, provided social media with arrivals/set up photos, took photos of press events in the Techno Zone (the shot of the Defence Secretary here is mine), supported the press office with technical information when needed, photographed the RAF100 Parade, helped set up the press conference for the SkyGuardian arrival, did general tasks as asked by my managers, and above all, had a really great time and met a really great bunch of friends.

Which celebrities have you met during your time volunteering?

Saturday only, early arrival by car with friend, brother and nephew followed by route march with the others down to the village and back in the queue, East end static once in, show, West end static before being shooed out, home, pub! Several days sorting photos ensues......

Fingers crossed for the weather and no tech a/c.

Spending a rare time away from spewing useless over the top boring crap that no-one actually reads in the Brexit thread and happy in the knowledge that most of the rest of you despite all of your differences are also there enjoying the show, howsoever you may enjoy it your own ways.

...And probably chatting about how awesome Yeovilton was.

Last year it was Carol Vorderman, Col. Al Worden (Apollo 15), Gavin Williamson MP (then Defence Secretary), Tobias Ellwood MP. At meetings for Scampton previously I've also met Rory Underwood.

Boff, how much of the show do you get to see and are you able to get a ringside seat at arrivals and departures?

I will be driving up from Belgium early Friday, arriving around 7.30 as the gates open. Spending Friday and Saterday at FRIAT.
Saterday after show will be returning to Belgium.

It will be my 24th RIAT. And I was at the show that didn't happen...…

Looking forward to it, each and every year again…. :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:

Up early on Friday, driving up from Exeter with my Riat going buddy, to get to Totterdown before the flying starts. Watch the flying from outside the tent then wander down to Fairford for the evening. Next morning pack up at 7ish and into the show. Stay until we get knackered (usually about 5ish) then home to Exeter by 8...can’t wait!!

Thursday train to Schiphol (not checked yet where to change trains, probably even the train operator doesn't know what is the best option yet), then KLM 737 to Heathrow T4, Heathrow connect to Heathrow Central Bus Station, National Express to Swindon Bus Station, short walk to the Jury's Inn, depending on time and tiredness maybe walk a bit around. Friday, Saturday and Sunday shuttlebuss to and from Fairford. Monday the reverse of Thursday except the possible walking around in Swindon.
A weather forecast is a forecast and just that

Ive found this thread very enjoyable. Seeing were people are coming from and how much effort is put in to plan around different variations of public transport etc.

Monday only for me, I'm am just there for the numbers, wont even take my camera. My dad is 80 and P&V is perfect for us. Tried the full show last year on the Friday and it is just too big for him at his age. I also enjoy the monday more as I have to work for the numbers.

First time at RIAT!! Sunday ticket only. I will be leaving Dundee with my son on the Friday at 6pm Driving down to Carlisle to stay the night there and then down the M6 etc hopefully arriving at the Premier Inn Witney early afternoon. I truly can't wait . I haven't been to a big airshow since Leuchars closed. I've got a shopping list as long as my arm from my 3 year old grandson for adding to his model collection. He's as excited as his auld granny here.

I'd love to see the flypast on Saturday Would any of you guys know of somewhere between Witney and Fairford where I might catch it ??

Driving up Friday morning from Heathrow area. Friday ticket only - so spending the day there in the Viewing Village. Drive to Faringdon for overnight stay then up Saturday to find a convenient 'field' outside of RIAT and watch the Saurday show from there. Return home after.

Full FRIAT Mach 3 package for me. Staying at an inn in Wroughton so not too long a drive to the show each day. Arriving Tuesday evening to avoid a silly o'clock start from home in Bedfordshire on the Wednesday morning. Driving home Monday after we've been kicked out of the grandstand.
