We had the Frecce in both '19 and '18, so if they gave Fairford a miss this year it wouldn't exactly be a seismic shock.

Re: RIAT 2020

Postby RIAT Air Ops on Fri 21 Feb 2020, 6:17 pm

Evening All,

Just wanted to correct some misinformation given by other forum members on the previous page about the new south-west operational area which was announced in Paul's email yesterday.

The plan for RIAT 2020 is fundamentally different to previous occurrences which used bays on the north of the taxiway for fast jets (or the NATO Sentry & Belgian Vipers last year). For 2020, the whole of the South West Loop [sometimes known as the Bomber Loop] is now 'Air Ops Concrete' to use for aircraft parking. (Note: not including the South West Spur [sometimes known as the Christmas Tree] which is where the iconic B-1B & Fighter Line was). The exact divide on where the static will extend to and where the flying display assets will be parked depends on levels of notified participation over the coming months. Please be assured, there is always a good reason for why we do things and this new operation is the culmination of many minds thinking over many months, and there are a significant numbers of influences and constraints - with safety being key. We plan to give a full explanation of the why it's happening and how it's going to work to those attending the FRIAT Forum.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Cheers,
Peter

Honestly can't wait for this years show. Last year was ruined my mental health troubles and that played part in ruining that years thread also.

Made a promise to enjoy this years show, bring it on!

I'd imagine he was referring to the spelling of "Frecce".

Australia has just declared the "Corona Virus" as a Pandemic.

With all the talk about cancelling major events such as the Olympics and Formula One selected races, what are the general feelings about "Corona" affecting RIAT given the spread of the virus and RIAT being some 4 months away?

Hopefully the NHS are ready to deal with this virus. the consensus is that the hotter weather will stop the virus from spreading. also RIAT is a little way away yet and the doctors are working to ensure that we don't have an outbreak. RIAT have not voiced they're concerns yet so for now the show is still going on.

Its my understanding that the lock-downs and so on are to attempt to stop the thing spreading. Once it does, there's no point, it'll just take its course. Its already on the wane in China apparently. I guess all we can do is see how it plays out. Personally, I can't see it affecting RIAT, or indeed all that much of anything, but we'll see.

I'm sure that DBH know how bad the situation is for these air arms. plus, they've probably sent letters to the worlds air arms asking them if the virus is a big deal where they are. seems no trouble at the moment.

Indeed - whilst the current situation is clearly concerning, it's unwise to speculate about an event which is still five months away.

Just assume that everything will be proceeding as normal, unless and until advised otherwise.

I think the information is a little more available and under scrutiny than requiring an airshow to write a letter asking if it's a big deal lol

This week we received great news from the Royal Navy. They will be sending examples of all their aircraft types for static display at RIAT 2020! Their new Wildcat HM2 solo display will also participate in the weekend flying display.

We have received communication from various squadrons within the US Navy who would like to send aircraft for static display at RIAT 2020. We are establishing formal contact with them and hope they will be present at Fairford in July.

Today our CEO, Operations Director & Head of Air Operations are travelling to Brussels to attend the European Airshow Council Convention. The event brings together delegates from 25 to promote excellence and safety at European Airshows. This year's convention will focus on the sustainability of airshows, in a period where Climate Change is at the forefront of many nations thinking. Our team also be networking with representatives from many European Air Arms and hope to discuss their participation plan for 2020. We therefore hope to bring you good news from EAC in next week's update!
