RIAT 2020 - CANCELLED
Re: RIAT 2020
As others have said, by July the chance to stop it spreading will in all likelihood have gone anyway.
Are they govt going to cancel Premier league matches? As many people as attend RIAT go to them each and every week x at least 10.
They might start doing that, but unless that kind of action is taken soon, cancelling an outdoor event in the middle of July is going to be pretty pointless if you ask me (which I realise nobody was...)

Re: RIAT 2020
Cancelling the football has already been muted I believe, it being outdoors will make no difference if events start to get cancelled. If large sporting events and large gatherings start getting cancelled in the next couple of months then I'll start to fear the worst.
I remember getting a refund one year when it was cancelled due to the weather but I think organisers made it clear this was a one time gesture, especially considering most of the admission fee goes to charity.

Re: RIAT 2020
To answer my own question I have just rung RIAT ticket line and was told that refunds of tickets are possible up to the 1st June as per the website less £20 admin per order, Riat told me they have no intention of cancelling the show unless ordered by the government (Health Dept), ordered cancellation after the 1st of June "may" qualify for a refund, a bit unclear on that at this stage, best advice is simply keep an eye on situation ....

Let face it, if we get to the point where RIAT is cancelled, the world will have a lot more to worry about than whether tickets get refunded.

But there is nothing, nothing more important than RIAT. Please never forget this

Especially with a PLAAF COVID-19 in attendance, that would certainly be a show to remember.

The FA is actually thinking about cancelling the rest of the season.

This conversation is quite distasteful. If RIAT is cancelled it will mean that hundreds or thousands of people will be dying of this virus in the UK. Hardly a time to be worrying about an Airshow.

I don't think it's distasteful, I just think it's pointless. 17,500 per year die from the flu in the UK. Stuff doesn't get cancelled because of it.
By July, well before in fact, the chance to contain it will have long past.

From a sporting angle, the Cheltenham Festival has a meeting Tomorrow, and Wimbledon on the 24th of March, with the Govt bodies and reps from WHO.

I wonder if we'll get a joint flypast of Patrouille Suisse and the Hornet?

Good lord... you're talking about RIAT airshow content... praise be... and peace be with you!!
In previous seasons where the Swiss have supported us with multiple acts, they have tended to take off together and do a flypast before one of them goes off to the hold whilst the other does their display. I think it is reasonable to believe that the F-5s and the Hornet will go off together and do a flypast together. Whether they do that, I don't know... but we have a bit of a history of seeing similar things - PC-7 team with the Puma one year? I also remember a Swiss flypast with the Hornet too but cannot recall if this was with the PC-7s or the F5s. Hopefully, they do a joint flypast... What will it be? 14 jet engines roaring at the same time?
Now officially qualifies as a 'regular' at Famous Dave's - El Centro

Off the top of my head:-
The F-5's and Hornet did a flypast in about 2004(ish)
The F-5's and PC-21 did a flypast in 2006
PC-7's and Puma flypast in about 2015(ish)
PC-7's and Hornet flypast in 2018
Same old sh*t.............just happening on a different day!!!

Re: RIAT 2020
Everyone stated their Air Forces are always keen to return to Fairford but sometimes budgets & operational commitments do not allow annual participation, which we appreciate.
I think this is the most important bit from todays update.

Re: RIAT 2020
Well you're not gonna be seeing the Czech Hip at RIAT this year. They declined.
