Strong chance it’ll be the standard BoB celebration that rolls around every 5 years. Not that that’s a bad thing, but note the contrast of how the RAF emotionally recall “the few” following a pretty milksop commemoration of D-Day’s 75th this year.

This! I can think of three aircraft in North America that should attend (80th anniversary of their first flight) - plus Vamps from Norway of course.

80th of BoB, 100th of de Havilland, and maybe a little mention of 70th anniversary of Korea?

Think about it,

- 80th of BoB would produce a hopefully similar response to those seen in 2015,
- 100th of de Havillland would hopefully get some gems in the flying and static,
- 70th of Korea would hopefully bring the MiG-15 and Vamps from Norway, F-86 Sabre and the Sea Fury for example? Now that would be something.

Jack.

Love the idea of GW 30th, but you can probably guarantee that will never be celebrated by the lefties  or the RAF bigwigs.
Also, no Jags, Bucs, Tonkas, Victors, Vc10's, etc to participate.
Mind you the USAF could put on that side of the show all on their own if you drag in the Collins F-4 as well i suppose, and the 117 comes over too. Although, alas, no Starlifter, but otherwise it could be quite a showing.

Not sure the D.H. anniversary would hold the attention or the static unless the (whisper it) Sea Vixen, got going again. Especially with Nimrod gone. Maybe one for Duxford or Shuttleworth?

Atomic could be a good theme.... B1, B52, B2, B29 mmmmm to see those lined up in static.
Got to love Russianhardware

Never mind static, to see them in the air would just be incredible.

How about the 30th anniversary of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. Invite Iraqi and Kuwaiti air arms.

Combine this with the 30th anniversary of Desert Shield.

Allowing for the 30th anniversary of Desert Storm in 2021. Where all Coalition Forces send at least one aircraft.

Can't say I think the beginning of the age of nuclear weapons is something worth celebrating.

!!!

At the very least, it would lend an interesting irony to any Japanese participation at the show...
Posting comments on an aviation-related chatroom, are ya? Looks like it an' all...

All you would get though are the same types that attend the airshow nowadays. So there wouldn't be anything that special IMHO.

No to the nuclear aspect too. Or VJ or VE Day; what would that look like to other nations?

I've got a radical thought: we don't always need to be commemorating X or Y anniversary. Stop living in the past and focus on modern military events and aspects.

Tiger Meet isn't as big as it was, though. Plus, a few of the aircraft from Tiger Meet turn up at RIAT every year, so that would just be a sort of "that's nice", and that's it.

Good point raised with Sky Tanker however; would certainly fill up the static, plus there are some very nice examples out now (A330 MRTT/KC-30, KC-46, KC-767 etc).

There was only the one aircraft at RIAT from this year's Tiger Meet - the Immelmann Tornado.

The static was FULL this year. So full there wasn't space for the Turkish KC-135. Adding more tankers isn't necessarily a good idea...

It wouldn't have taken much creativity to fit a few more tankers in the static park... don't forget RIAT once played host to about twice the number of aircraft seen this year - and that was with on-site parking!

Although they probably couldn't move it where they and we all wanted it, pretty sure they could have stuck it at the end of green near the E3. Better there than north side.

Yep, remember it very well, so when DBH say the static is full aka 2017/2019 yet only half of what was there in the 90s (same airbase but now more spece due to more concrete going down) so going back to an earlier posting of mine - if the static place is full it cant be with aircraft compaired to the 90s can it.

DBH have never claimed the static is full.
