Although totally expected, I'm still absolutely gutted :sob: :sob: :sob:

Me & Mrs will certainly be rolling over out FRIAT Mach 3 passes to 2022 though :sunglasses: :thumbsup_tone1:

I don't think its holding an event which is so much the problem, other events will probably take place.

As others have mentioned, with RIAT its the prestige of the event. The amount of overseas participation it relies on to be the event it is. If those countries are not up to speed by the summer and cannot participate or have to arrive for two weeks quarantine before attending a week long event and then going home to quarantine again, it becomes unworkable for all. RIAT wouldn't be right as half-arsed, its got to be the showpiece we know.

Fingers crossed see you all next year. Back to the slide scanner.

I couldn't take 12 seconds of them to be honest, overhyped tedium. Give me a good solo Extra anyday.

Not unexpected given the pandemic - this damn virus isn't just going to go away. Better to be safe over an extended period than sorry , happy to roll over my 2020/2021 tickets to 2022 to support the cause.

Given that I've also had to contest with joining the redundancy fraternity in the last two months ,after 35 years constant employment, gives me time to sort myself out and try with scores of others to get some form of employment and hopefully look forward to 2022 !

It's a shame and unfortunately I think we all knew this was coming. Well done to the RIAT team for trying their best and for taking the bold step to make this announcement.

At least we all know where we stand for this year and hopefully we'll be back to normal in 2022.

it's a massive shame that we are going to lose it for another year, but fully understandable given the circumstances.

i think i'll be rolling over to 22. i'm determined to have my first Mach 3 FRIAT experience.

Cancellation was sadly inevitable. I'd not even given a moments consideration to accommodation for the week.

I feel slightly more optimistic for next year and would give it a 50/50 chance of going ahead. The saddest thing is that you can only celebrate your 50th anniversary once, and it was perhaps even the last 'theme' that could pull in a well above typical line up.

Roll on 2023, just in case. When we lost 2020 I never imagined for one second we would lose '21 as well.

While I fully appreciate the disappointment that most will be feeling with this news, on a personal note, the announcement has come as something of a relief, in that the decision on whether or not to attend has been taken out of my hands. Being in the older and, due to underlying health reasons, more vulnerable category, even having had the vaccine, I was feeling considerable concern at the prospect of attending an event with such large crowds.

As it now stands, with having bought tickets for the 2020 show about 18 months ago, that expenditure is long forgotten and I'm happy to let it roll over to the next show, whether in 2022 or even 2023.

Additionally, I had feared that if this year had gone ahead, it would have been a watered-down, 'Scampton-level' event that would perhaps, have been as much, if not more of a disappointment than no show. It is preferable, IMO, to be patient and wait for a return that has all the variety and interest of RIAT as we know and love it.

Maybe ... but it will still be possible to celebrate the 50th show, even though it won't be in the 50th year

Could be controversial in itself.
Do we count the two huge Boscombe shows in 1990 and 1992, all IAT in size but not in name, the latter even craftily abbreviated as an anagram ATI 1992.
Does 2008 get included in the list? After all, all the aircraft were in place.
If all three are included I think we are up to 42 shows since 1971, but it could be 41 or 39 or maybe 40 depending on what is included. Would we ever get a true 50th show? :nerd: :open_mouth: :mask:

In these extraordinary circumstances I see absolutely no reason why the 50th Anniversary can't be celebrated in 2022. Its the first opportunity to do so, after all.

I will be rolling over my tickets. Had top row seats in the Grandstand for 2 days and Pimm's for Sunday.

Disappointed, but nothing can be done. Hoping that Duxford can still do September as it is smaller, and will be mostly UK based displays taking out the huge international element of RIAT that is needed.

If Cosford goes ahead in September I will no doubt try for it too.
