The last time I went to an airshow it was held outside. Why would anything now prevent it going ahead given the current situation (which even if it got worse it's clear we now accept covid like anything else and live with it). Should be personal choice, if scared, don't go. Though how anyone lives with shops etc but then would choose not to go to an outdoor event is beyond me.

For those curious about airshow marketing (and being 'realigned') .....
https://www.thedrum.com/profile/pinpoin ... oint-media
Very interesting and thanks for posting, I'll be watching with keen interest. I wonder what the demographic of the marketing team is and why the need given the annual sell-out nature of the event. Some pick-outs...

RIAT hopes to inspire a whole new, diverse generation to take an active role in aerospace, engineering and space. - I wonder if this is sponsor driven?
Guest speakers - Sounds good to me. Hopefully from the world of aviation.
Entertainment for all ages - Hopefully aviation themed although I hear Alexandra is available on RIAT weekend.
A host of famous faces and guests are expected at the event. - Hopefully not tucked away in the hostility chalets.

Did anyone see the video of the F35 at Australia Day? That would be incredible for RIAT seeing an F35 being put through its paces like that.

Longer video in the link below

Edit - was meant for the wishlist thread, sorry.

Yeah, I posted that a few weeks ago. Though they have changed it a bit. used to be 9th-17th for the F35.

The date probably changed as flying legends got cancelled. In other news the super puma (attending different show on RIAT week) and patrouille suisse (nothing listed for July) schedule was released with RIAT missing on both.

Suppose with the Swiss Hornet confirming, that may use up the Swiss allocation. Or perhaps the PC-7 team will also confirm - they’ve done joint formations with the Hornet at RIAT before.

Swiss PC7 team self confirm

Very good to hear, they're excellent. And it leaves open the possibility (probability tbh) of a flypast with the Hornet. 👍🏼

Did they sift through the Recycle Bin to find the grainiest photo to post? :face_vomiting: I was impressed by the first couple of posts from this new marketing agenda but had to roll my eyes at this one.

Same, it was obviously about reassurance considering we should have had the first announcement by now. Surely they could have confirmed the Swiss participation.

Lets hope for next week.

In the past, what's the latest we've had the initial announcement?

I hated their previous marketing campaigns but I think we're being a little over critical here. Basically any airshow has posts like this one, it's not the same as getting aircraft information wrong or announcing big wheels the same day as other airshows announce participants.

Agreed. To me, there’s nothing wrong with it.

Not every social media post is going to be an aircraft announcement.

It was a hype post. Trying to get people excited by letting them know announcements are coming and it's the start of regular updates. Done a few myself like this in the past for my local show.

Can I say that the photo shows a F-4 Phantom in the background, is it not possible that with the main theme of Riat they are giving us a kind of an early update?
In particular as i think that this could be the last chance of getting them to Fairford.

I have to say when I saw the post when they could have used any plane at all I thought the same. But I am almost always proved wrong.

No. It’s just using stock imagery from the previous show to generate a bit of hype for upcoming updates. Let’s try and avoid a return to reading into every little detail as some hidden message or secret update.

I’ve seen witnesses in court that face less scrutiny over their choice of words/phraseology than the DBH staff. Give them a break.

If an aircraft is ready to be announced, it’ll be announced. Until then, we will all have to remain patient. 👍🏻
