Just packing the 500mm - realised I should have spent the last two years weight training.

Reckon they'll be at Boscombe over the show, as all the ground kit is there. As long as they display on Friday, I'll be a happy camper.
A practice on Wednesday or Thursday would be even better :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

What a absolutely brilliant display by the black eagles and it was just a practice!! Wipes the floor with the red arrows!

I'd forgot how heavy the 600mm was until I went back to Duxford last year for their Summer show, it near killed me at Cosford. Never had the 600mm at RIAT, that is going to be hard.

You have a week to train. 1000 reps of lifting the 500 per night should do it. Cue the Rocky music...

As for time, 154 weeks of waiting is over, just one to go before the worlds airforces descend on a sleepy Cotwolds village.

Since the last time I used the 500mm I have bought a R5, great camera but a bit smaller than I am used to and it does not make it easier to hold the big lenses, for me anyway.

Has it been mentioned previously if the Black Eagles will be based at Fairford or Boscombe over RIAT weekend?
It'll be Fairford for the duration of RIAT....I'd be flabbergasted personally if not. You don't go to all the trouble & expense they have to come here for RIAT and then not be part of the show. I'd imagine they'll be parked up in the 'Pit Area' where the Reds are. Rehearse on the Weds (late) & Thursday too. Display all 3 days. Maximum exposure for them, their country & the aircraft itself.

And the Tejas 🥳

No major cancellations would be the best update this week 👍🏼

They've kept quiet since they said that!

Or they're waiting until Thursday so they can say 'up yours everyone I told you!' :joy:

Their update last week suggested there would be one more as they referred to it as the 'penultimate' update.
Starting this week's penultimate aircraft update for RIAT 2022 with a *big* addition to the static aircraft displays, in the shape of a USAF E-4B "Nightwatch" for static display! This extremely rare aircraft, based on the Boeing 747-200, is making a special appearance at RIAT 2022 to mark the 60th Anniversary of the National Airborne Operations Center, and of course the USAF 75th Anniversary.

So the C-2 it is

And perhaps confirmation of the Reds and Koreans joint flypast.

Another problem - this time for FRIAT e-ticket holders. To get your 'free' daily flying list, a FRIAT benefit, you need a voucher. You can't get a voucher for Wednesday as FRIAT is not open to collect you pass and vouchers. And, for me, who was planning to be in P&V all day, it's not worth a trip to the FRIAT enclosure just to get a voucher on Thursday. I have asked Wendy for a solution.... and will post any reply...

Have special formations always been announced before the show days? I seem to remember when I was younger they'd always be a surprise. I know they like to get tickets sold and to raise the hype but surely some surprises would be nice?

I'm still surprised that apart from the B-52 and Osprey (not discrediting these, these are fab additions), there are no other displays (so far) that usually fit in with this theme? Catalina? Mustang? B-17? P-47? P-40? (I understand some are static). But it seems as one of the main themes, with no ACC present, it seems a little low in this area in the flying? Maybe something else is lined up who knows? I was thinking 'ah but in 2012 there were no US Air Force items in the flying' but then realised that wasn't actually a theme. I can't say otherwise for the static display though as that looks fab.

Hi Mr Ben - I ask every year or for the C130 support aircraft from the same base which is local to me - but sadly it's a no.

Well I am very much looking forward to the next week going by so I can get back to doing what I love best, sitting back, chilling, eating and drinking while watching whatever turns up! My boys really loving “bravos”(the f18s on Disney’s planes) and it’s his 4th birthday on wed arrivals! So anything with smoke on is for him ok 👍

I’ll bet that if you just show them your e-ticket they’ll give you one.

Well that's what I suggested to Wendy first but the return suggestion was that I had my pass sent to a UK address which does not work for me, so we need some other solution. Looks, I am sorry to say, like another case of we never thought about it.... I know it's minor but it still grates.

im still holding out for USAF 75 flypast with assets from mildenhall and the heath with a B2 fly-in. seems a waste to send a B-52 to take off, flypast and land again
